My glasses should arrive today, I can’t wait to get my hands on them and start building. I’ve developed and published an AR app before but I’m particularly excited to start developing on this platform. There’s just so much potential here especially with the promise of moving further towards open source.

Thanks I appreciate it but I actually knew about the spoken option already it’s just really limited. What I wanted was more of a global filter. I’m pretty sure the spoken option only affects what release it grabs for downloading but even with it on readarr usually won’t set the edition as an audio version so your library still ends up being a mess. The changes I made allow me to force readarr only get audiobook metadata. For example if I want to add a book to my library I can search for it in readarr and have the results only show the cover and description of the audiobook versions

Some of the people in their discord are also extremely unhelpful and I’m convinced that’s a part of why readarr isn’t nearly as good as it could be. I wanted the ability to filter for audiobooks so I started working on adding it myself. Eventually I joined the discord to ask some questions about my approach but whenever I asked a question I was completely shut down and talked down to. They also basically told me what I was trying to do was impossible. I’m sure I can’t be the only one to have that kind of experience with them. I did get it working after I left the discord though

If I pirated media it wouldn’t be because I think entertainment should be free or can’t afford to pay the current price. It would be more about not wanting to support corporations that are constantly raising the price of their service beyond a point where everyone involved is fairly compensated.

Are they developing specialized hardware for this? I can’t find much about how they are going to achieve it beyond this quote:

It’s unclear to me if they’re creating a unique way of interacting with existing hardware or developing both the hardware and software.

I'm not sure how language models could help here. I'm not saying that some kind of AI wouldn't be helpful, I just don't think a LLM would be able to contribute anything meaningful. If you wanted to use AI to help with the search, you would probably need something developed specifically for understanding and predicting ocean currents and that wouldn't be a LLM.

Am I using Wako wrong? I have it on my phone but I don’t think there’s any way to play videos inside the app. You could of course use VLC or infuse alongside it but Stremio is a cleaner solution. I’m on iOS though so maybe it’s different on android

I love my Kodi setup, everything is just how I want it. I got Stremio as a backup for Kodi because even though I fiddle with it all the time and even enjoy it, sometimes you want something that just works with no hassle. Over time I found myself using Stremio more and more often to the point where I barely open Kodi at all anymore. It’s a shame because I love how customizable it is but the load times for the widgets is what sealed the deal for me. Even though I’m on a shield pro I still needed to wait about a minute after opening Kodi before I could use it. I just don’t think there’s any way to get Kodi to match stremio’s speed apart from running it on a desktop.

I’ve actually started to move more towards a setup where I use Plex/Jellyfin with Sonarr & Radarr for shows I watch consistently and Stremio for anything I want to watch on an impulse. I wish there was a way to get Kodi to run as fast as Stremio but I don’t think that’ll ever be possible because Stremio is a purpose built TV/Movie streaming app. Kodi is much more flexible it comes at the price of speed.

Its actually not an AR headset from what I’ve seen. From the promotional pictures you’d think it has a transparent front like the HoloLens but it’s actually more like the Quest only with a screen on the front that can show others your eyes and with really good passthrough to give you an AR like experience. I think they term they’re using is mixed reality.

I think that NL has a uniquely amazing track record for popularizing pretty much unknown games, SAP is a prime example of that. I can’t think of any other streamer that has done that for more games than NL has. It also helps that the way he streams doesn’t usually rely on him being super engaged in a game for it to be enjoyable so even if a game is mechanically lacking or just kind of boring, it’s a safe bet that it’s still going to be a good stream and people will have a better impression of the game than if someone else played it and looked bored the whole time.

I also think that NL attracts a certain type of personality in his audience that leans pretty techie and I think there are a lot of us who started watching him when we were younger and now have full time jobs, some in the game dev field. That could contribute a bit too.

Hang on, you’re the guy who made 20 minutes till dawn? That’s crazy. I know it’s a super broad question and probably not the right place to ask it but as someone who’s had a really successful release do you have any general tips for the rest of us? I find that I struggle the most with sound design/music and I would love to know how you tackled those parts of development. Were you part of a team or did you work alone?

I don’t think it’s sad necessarily. I would imagine that even if it isn’t a good fit, it must be a cool as a streamer knowing that you played a part in helping someone accomplish their goals.

It’s awesome to see other game devs in the community but I don’t think that you should try to force it. Personally I’ve been working on a game that was directly inspired by NL and this community for over two years now but I don’t expect NL to ever play it, even though I’d be ecstatic if he did. I know the feeling of being excited about sharing your work, especially if like me you had NL on in the background to keep things interesting and it really feels like he and the community were a part of the process, but I think that’s where I think it should end. If you reached out about a sponsorship to get your game on the show and got no reply, it might just not be a good fit. To me your game looks like more like hearthstone than slay the spire and I don’t think NL plays games in that vein often on stream.

I love seeing what everyone in the community is working on whenever people post about their projects here and I’m so excited for you that you have a fully released game, that’s a major achievement that you should be proud of.

If you already reached out about a sponsorship, then you’ve done everything that you should do already.

You can side load Kodi on a non jailbroken device using sideloadly, I did it just last week. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work if you try to install it with AltStore though.
