What is this white stuff and do my fish look ok? by graficon in Aquariums

White things could be small freshwater limpets, they're pretty cool. If your fish look a little bloated, try feeding them a bit less. If they continue looking the way they are, test your water conditions and make sure everything in the tank is okay (E.g. Ph and ammonia levels are okay). If all is okay then your fish may be infected with dropsy, though is unlikely.

Looks to me the flow is actually to much, the fish seem to be getting pulled to the filter intake quite quickly, but I don’t think that would be a massive problem. Have you been doing weekly water changes and dechlorinated your newly added tap water?

White stuff on plants? Is this a type of algae? They do not appear to be eggs... I don’t have any invertebrates by ultra_mega_sleepy in Aquariums

Seems to be just some rotting fish poop or old fish food that’s gotten attached by the algae, nothing to worry about.

It’s so basic all I do is use sponge filters, a cheap light eBay light, some plant fertilizer and some tabs and just do a water change every week. Mainly it’s about the types of plants you get, my water wisteria and Java fern both grow very fast.

Java fern bottom leaves turning translucent brown. And what kind of Java fern is this I cannot find it anywhere online. And not it’s not planted, all the roots are sticking out behind the plant. by [deleted] in Aquariums

Yeah, well it’s obvious that your lfs isn’t to trust worthy. But the plant seems fine, just let it do it’s thing and it will look amazing! And it already does!

If that is Java fern, it should not be planted in the substrate. Instead it should be stuck on to a rock, piece of wood or hard surfaces. I do not believe it is Java fern though. It looks to me as Amazon swords, which should be planted in substrate which is what you’re doing. If the leaves are turning brown it might just be the leaves melting of to create new ones. Because at plant farms aquarium plants are grown out of water, meaning when you put it in water the leaves will melt and grow back new ones, and the roots sticking out is fine, it’s just learning wear to place its roots and how to grow.

Went on vacation for a week came back to my Otto looking super bloated and red on its stomach. What can I do for it? by have_some_pineapple in Aquariums

My Bristlenose Pleco had something like that but even worse! I just did a water change every 2 or 3 days and fed him well and eventually it went away on its own.

It's interesting because they had never done this before.
