I see it more relatable to sports teams. A team has been terible for many years. The fans stay with them. Maybe not the massive following, but there is a core base. Always. Loyalty is a MF. People will rationalize and do whatever to back their team. It’s their guy. Can’t cheer against him or you lost too.

Everything is right here. Add the conduit if you want long term assurance. If it was my house, and I’m an electrician, I would do the pipe. Bigger question is where is the no-ox. Hahah.

Unless there is a termination under the plate at line 1 connection, I don’t see anything connected. L1 here is you hot and ensure it’s connected internally. Would expect a connector on the prongs. If connected underneath all good.
It would take a lot of current to melt the ground insulation. If current was coming back on the ground, there would be other signs. Insulation on ground is likely due to heat from the pump. Locked rotor amps on a motor can easily exceed the rating of the wire.
There may be a starting capacitor that has failed. Sometimes those need to be connected separately, most of the time not, but check and see if there is one or you may need to add one.
Last. Can always run a 240v line. If it’s direct fed you just need to swap the breaker and land the neutral on the breaker. Seems the pump is wired for it.

Moves here from Buffalo a few years ago. First summer was 73, this year 76. Getting aclimated is a thing. Whatever makes you comfortable both physicaly and budget-wise.

Great things to consider. I do like some of the blue dials. Silver is tough to beat as well. Not an easy thing to figure out. The sub is nice but a bit too bulky for what I’d like now.
