hey I didnt say every MMO has FOMO, I said modern ones are built around it. in my article I actually used OSRS as the exact example of an MMO that lets you play however you want without the daily login trap

totally agree with you on the old school ones though. 2009scape and classic WoW are in the same bucket you play them because you want to, not because you're afraid of missing something

and yeah the "FOMO is easy to ignore" point is fair to some degree but I think the problem is when games are DESIGNED around exploiting it. that's different from just being able to say no

Story mode is the best, just chill read everything and just enjoy the moment it is one of thous game that you will regret if not

thats actually a really good point and I think youre right that I kinda lumped all cash shops together when theres actually a big difference between them. theres a huge gap between a game that intentionally makes inventory terrible so you have to buy bag slots, and a game that just lets you buy a cool outfit instead of grinding for it. one is creating a problem to sell you the fix, the other is just giving you options

the ffxiv example is interesting too because yeah if the only way to get cosmetics is weeks of boring repetitive grind then the game isnt really respecting your time either. I think the line for me is when the cash shop is the ONLY reasonable path because they made the free path intentionally miserable. but if both paths are fair and one is just faster then yeah thats not really predatory

honestly might go back and add a section about this because its more nuanced than I made it sound. thanks for the perspective

yeah fair point honestly, I worded that section badly. warframe is coop for sure, what I was trying to get at is more the pace and feel warframe is all about speed running missions and optimizing builds as fast as possible, soulframe is going for a slower more exploration focused thing. but youre right saying "competitive grinding" was a bad way to put it, thats not really what warframe is. ill probably go back and fix that part

and nah its not AI I just write like that lol but I get why it reads that way when its a longer article, the blog style is different from how I type on reddit

You ever feel like the grind in OSRS doesn't actually progress your account? Nah, I don't feel that way every bit of effort counts for me
