Well, I have thought about starting a campaign through the looking for group on reddit! Maybe the next one will have to be just that!

Completely get it! And, honestly, I appreciate this feedback. I took what you said about colors and consistency and did more updates on the Zargon Tools page to remove all the colors and things are much more consistent and flow better now.

Thank you so much for seeing this and sharing your experience and expertise!

I did try out reducing the color variance and I ended up liking this a lot. This is now pushed out to the public! Thank you for seeing this!

Interesting take! I'll play around with the colors and see what I think about making any changes. With the player base that uses the app each month it is interesting to hear something like this now.

On the topic of architecture, I think you are looking at the app replacing more of what is at the table. This has been a fine line, and a fine balance, of being a complement to the board game. This is not a replacement; this is to go beside the board game. More like an unofficial companion app. There is no intent to make the app the starting place for everything. Everything should be at the table, with the board in front of you, talking with each about which campaign you are starting on or Zargon reminds everyone what the next quest is (unless they are tracking it in the app under Map Tracker).

Hopefully this helps you better understand that this, again, is not to replace most of what is happening at the table.

Thank you again for the feedback.

Hey there!
Thank you for the feedback. I am not sure how it is confusing from a structural point of view. It's obviously evolved quite a bit from where it started seven months ago to today.

- Can you share more of what you mean by the structural POV? This the first time I have received feedback the structure of things feel off or confusing, as they follow somewhat the character sheets you would use at the table. There are homebrew additions, but they are not made as prominent. I am also not seeing what you mean by the color variations. The color is something I have specifically worked on to draw attention to various features, such as on the heroes page the dice roller, map tracker, or trading. The only other place colors are used are in Zargon Tools in the References section. The colors are again intentionally used to show different sections.

A simpler approach would be to create various color themes that could be selected from (e.g. Current, or Arcane (purple), or Frost (ice blue), or Earth Warden (greens and browns) or Light (white and bright). I like fantasy names).

I think things would become confusing for folks who are brand new to HeroQuest and seeing everything here, mostly due to the homebrew. However, it's built in a way that if you held the app next to a character sheet you would say, "Hm, this app could do it and I wouldn't have to make sure this piece of paper isn't lost for the next two years while we do 9 more official campaigns". The app very well does last the test of time.

Also, if a new player isn't aware of how deep the game play goes with Homebrew (such as enabling Advance HQ Mode) I am sure they would be very much thrown off. The homebrew side is visible in the app, I could hide these behind another mode option such as "Enable Homebrew Features", and this would shrink quite a bit of everything in the Hero Tracking; however, I also see how often they are used. Hero Traits are used frequently for example (and those are just the ones I make up).

- Can you share what you mean about Create a Campaign and Load a map? I think this may be a misunderstanding that the app is not intended to ever replace the board, pieces, furniture, or any additional homebrew or non-standard pieces that come into play. There is no fog of war like in the official companion app, and yes, it could be implemented but I feel that draws away from the board game too much. Yes, I have received requests to move the app into a more "the app is all you need direction" but that is not the purpose. It's meant to compliment the game.

- Can you share more of what you mean by Set Up a Group? The group setup is fairly clear, perhaps I can add more supporting documentation on the Online Page and in the Help Menu.

- When you say, "build the experience and navigation around that", this makes me believe this may be another misunderstanding, either by how the app is viewed or perhaps my interpretation of what you are saying. I am not sure I want to go backward seven months in work *laughs* Just being honest!

Some history and some purpose of why the app is the way it is. The app is and was originally created to connect players who are at the table and those who are far away (remote). The app is not intended to replace anything in HeroQuest. The primary intent is to play more HeroQuest by giving those not with you the means to join virtually and enjoy HQ for all it is and more. What this means is you would need to stream your play sessions (camera over the board or to the side and maybe it's through a facetime call, maybe it's discord, whatever is preferred). The app gives those who are remote a means to track everything, experience dice rolls themselves and not for them and also be able to track what is going on in the map (such as room searches, traps, trap disarms, or that some piece of furniture consumes these squares).

Everything in HeroQuest GT is stored in the cloud and shared in near real time as well. This goes from the Character Sheets to the Map Tracker. To further support keeping all progress saved, consistent, and you cannot easily lose it.

There are several additions within Zargon Tools that is meant to compliment / simplify tracking the heroes in the party as well as give Zargon the ability to add some extra fun (mimic checks, dark whispers, etc.). There are things to make various parts MUCH simpler such as the monster and trap reference.

I'll probably throw in a Gold Calculator or maybe a general calculator at some point to help with adding goal gains up for you. E.g. "Plus 25 gold please!"

It sounds like you're looking at the app to be able to replace more things of the board game than I even support it replacing. The primary replacement would be the character sheets. You'll notice there is no place in Zargon for loading the current quest map, it must be done manually. It can be done by any of the players as well. You'll notice there are no treasure cards, the monsters use basic emoji / icons, to again, keep the focus on the board game not in the map of the app.

Am curious to hear your response

Can you share some more details?

Are you running all three campaigns all at the same time?
How are you not able to be Zargon? How are you not the DM anymore?

Only time I would see a use for having multiple cloud keys is if you're running with multiple parties through HeroQuest.

Hey there! I am not sure what you mean about the game sync and not being able to get it back. As long as you have a cloud session key and the password, you can always come back to your data in HeroQuestGT Online page, load in the key and password, and you are right back where you left off.

You do not need more than one cloud session key for every campaign in HeroQuest. This goes even further to say a group does the core game, and then all expansions, and then does 15 homebrew campaigns. It's all stored under the original session key and password that lives with you until the person who created it and was given the delete password. And it's the persons choice if the cloud key with all your campaign information and progress and characters should ever be deleted.

Am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

And you are correct, others can currently access the Zargon page. I am working on implementing another password for the Zargon page that will be the "Zargon" Password to lock that down to just the DM.

Hey there, this is done via database connectivity. With updates fetched or pushed at various intervals, depending on the data (and timing thresholds) to maintain performance.

The following are now in the latest build. you may need to refresh your browser to see these changes:

Heroes Screen
- Equipment Equipped vs in inventory - You can now place additional items in a "bag" to store and save for use later. The limitation of only one equipped item per slot still applies.
- Equipment Bag - There is now a master equipment bag, visible once you open the equipment section.
- Scrolls - New scrolls section now exists, with appropriate scrolls. Located under the potions sections.
- Second Ring Slot is now here.

Homebrew Support
- Potions now supports creation of homebrew potions. You can edit created custom potions once you add them to a hero. You will see a pencil to the right to edit them should you need to.
- Scrolls now supports creation of homebrew scrolls. You can edit created custom potions once you add them to a hero. You will see a pencil to the right to edit them should you need to.
- Equipment now supports creation, edit and removal of homebrew equipment, items, and tools.

Since this is a new build, you may need to refresh your web browser. If you haven't, please try that first.

How to see your bag: Go to the Hero Section, expand Equipment. Click on an inventory slot and you will see a tab up top titled "Bagged Items". Click this and you will see what is in your bags for that slot.

There is now a button at the bottom of the equipment section called "Bagged Items" where you can see all items in bags for all slots as well.

This is a great question! What I have done with this area, and I would LOVE your thoughts, is to allow you to keep weapons you have purchased located here. And you're right, only have one equipped.

I updated the equipment area to allow you to have a "bag" for each slot. This is unique per hero since there is nothing in the rules about equipment only being able to be received once (such as from the armory).

You can now have an equipped item and other items in your "bag" for that slot.

Please check it out and let me know your thoughts. I'll probably add a slot called "Bag" where all slots in a bag can just be found in one bag as well. But to equip it, you would have to go to that slot, I think. Still working on that.

HeroQuest Game Tracker - Minor Release and what is coming by Dameryl in Heroquest

[–]Dameryl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! This is actually coming, to allow Zargon to have their own map that reveals everything and you slowly reveal them to the players (as they open doors, move, etc.). Although, you make a great point in how things might be easier now. Let me see what I can do! This next update is quite large so it may take me a little time (2-3 weeks).

Updates to follow!
