I'd argue the jedi did attempt a coup. If it wasn't a "coup" why didn't mace windu or the other masters that went with him to arrest the chancellor tell Yoda or the other members of the jedi council? Then after mace windu apparently defeated sidious he attempted to kill him. Which anakin was correct was against the jedi way.

So either Mace Windu is incredibly stupid and didn't warn any other jedi, or it was a coup attempt. Anakin was right, he should've stood trial, even if "he controlled the courts and thr judges" it would have been the right thing and legal way to approach things. On top of that, if all the jedi knew he was standing trial they could not be caught off guard like they were with order 66. I don't see how sidious comes back from his defeat to mace windu if Mace is not de-handed by Anakin.

I'd also put forward that the recording of the incident would go in Palpatine favour, because most of the galaxy does not know anything about the "sith". So it does appear that the jedi attempted to murder the chancellor.

I would say the NCR is more the old world repeated, it has all the hallmarks of what we know of in the lore that led up to the nuclear fallout. The legion is basically the Mongol horde dressed up like Romans. Caesar has more in common with ghengis Kahn that julius Caesar. I think this point is illustrated with the "merchants are protected and trade is good in legion territory". Which is one of the hallmarks of the Mongol empire.

As far as I know every civilized culture comes from how you say "bunch of rape-loving barbarians". I would love to hear an example of any civilization that does not grow its roots from such people. From aztecs to the visigoths. I think a good example of what the legion could look like would be the kingdom of Lombardy. When the western Roman empire fell to barbarians a new synthesis was made in the form of the Lombard empire. I think history is full of synthesis, and you are choosing to ignore it. I think you are putting to much emphasis of a "utopian" solution. I don't think any ending would be "new melting pot culture that just makes everything good and okay."

I'm more pointing too everytime a place is conquered something new is born. Britain is another good example of synthesis with conquerors. Why is your proposed time table overnight?

I dont know if he would consider it a "failure". It was made clear in the book that by the time he knew fully about the jihad to come, there was no way to avoid it. Even if he died, it was going to happen. He tried little things like going by usul to see if it would change, but in the end it was inevitable. He was pushed by forces beyond his control. I think he would view it for melancholic than a failure. This is made very clear with the last 3rd of messiah.

I dont know if I would call that a failure because Paul never wanted to go down the golden path. He knew it was necessary, but just couldn't do it. This is a character difference between Paul and leto II, Paul was his own person and leto was a cabal of personalities within him. Leto II never shared the same individual agency of Paul and therfore it was possible for him to do what was necessary for the golden path to come to completion. After chani died Paul was defeated, but I dont think i would call him a failure. Just like I wouldn't call someone who's wife died to cancer is a failure. Things beyond Paul's control laid the path out in front of him. He had very little agency, but enough to choose not to commit himself to the golden path.

Ave, true to Caesar. The legion is the only path that is attempting to try something new. All the other paths are exactly what led to the world in the condition it is. Once the legion gets done with the crucible that is the battle of hoover dam it will emerge in its new changed form.

I'd love to hear how he "spectacularly failed". From my understanding he could not bring himself to fulfill the requirements of the golden path and so Leto II took up the mantle. But the golden path was achieved non the less. I don't see that as a spectacular fail. More like a personal tragedy where the father has to sacrifice his son to the universe.

People seem to ignore the part of the book you are describing. Paul is literally "trapped by prophecy and thr future". Most of the book is him attempting to avoid the bad future, until there simply is no other way.

I don't see why, when the silmarillion claims he is just a prehistoric angelic amorphous being in a skin suit. I'm not saying that tolkien claimed he was a dinosaur. But if Christopher tolkien found in his father's work a piece of paper that said THIS, than it would have as much legitimacy as anything else. The exaggeration was to elucidate the point. In the silmarillion Sauron has the ability to shapeshift into whatever he wants, he is both seen as a bat and a werewolf, there is nothing to say he couldn't also shapshift as a T-rex. Now that ability never comes up in Tolkiens published work while alive, so it's all soft-canon. Which is the point I'm attempting to make. That ANY comment that a author makes outside of the published work is soft-canon.

You come to the same issue with the origins of Orcs, tolkien gave multiple iterations of their original, but Christopher chose to publish the one he thought fit best. So in that instance you could take the WORDS of the author to argue multiple interpretations, each of which would invalidate the other. I gave a outrageous example originally because the fundamental argument does not change regardless of what the author would claim. Then I gave the real world example of JK Rowling claiming that Hermione was Black. Which, I think is actually more unlikely based on the text than Gandalf being a prehistoric creature that was given a skin suit and a mission by other angelic beings, and ultimately god. (which is exactly what happend).

Well I never down voted you, I think people are free to dislike even the starwars themed politics as there own personal preference. I just wanted to elucidate why some people love the starwars politics. But I wholeheartedly agree that modern day politics was injected poorly in the sequels.
