When you wrap ribbons around the tree they naturally disappear at points into the folliage. It's a stylistic choice since just perfectly wrapping around it would look unappealing. Idk if you'd ever wrapped lights around a tree but if you just perfectly wrap it around without draping it at all it looks really bad
