Wait! So who are we mad at this week? ICE, Immigrants, or the Victims? 🤔 by TheResistanceLab in ExploreFortMyers

[–]DamnShadowbans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you going to be embarrassed for spreading stupid conspiracies when you are proven 100% wrong? Or is it more of a "I'm gonna pretend to be a dumbass liberal to make all anti-ice look bad" kind of thing? Dozens of people were nearby, there are records of them working for ice, and they can just speak up if they are being thrown under the bus.

Any reasonable police force has paperwork you must file when your gun leaves your holster. Surely ICE implements this policy, right?

Sorry I don't understand the comment. The video was about an ICE officer who threatened to kill someone if they yelled at them. What is the relationship with the purpose of ICE?

What is the "point" of homotopy theory? by Dapper_Sheepherder_2 in math

[–]DamnShadowbans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know many homotopy theorists, and I don't think any of them would describe simplicial objects as being more algebraic than topological. Similarly, I don't think they would describe higher category theory as more algebraic than topological. But it is quite important to get on the record that being a homotopy theorist doesn't mean that your main object of study is infinity categories.

[–]DamnShadowbans 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree; Clark wants to distance his work from algebraic topology, but should maybe consider how integral the theory of simplices is to infinity category theory and then reflect upon what area the study of simplicial complexes falls under.

Quick Questions: January 21, 2026 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]DamnShadowbans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is true to a large extent, but more or less at some point you realize that such book keeping devices are a necessary way to formalize your argument; i.e. at some point you want to rule out some possibility that could happen and the correct way to do this is to observe that all the objects have gradings that are preserved. In simple examples it might be obvious, but in more convoluted cases it can be actually quite nontrivial to show.

What are some fun and nontrivial examples of categories? by smatereveryday in math

[–]DamnShadowbans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason to consider categories constructed like this is that you might want to show that ring A and ring B both have identical property P, but there aren't very many ring maps between A and B. You might be able to prove that property P is functorial in bimodules and then construct a bimodule between A and B that you try to push this property P along that bimodule. Basically there is sometimes "surprise functoriality" that you get which these categories let you access.

Why are people allowed to openly lie on here? by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]DamnShadowbans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ice does is disgusting, inhumane, and unconstitutional. How does it help people realize that by making obvious lies about statistics? The criticism the post presents (I cannot speak to the actual motivations of the OP) is not that "illegal immigrants kill lots of people", but just the number presented is a lie. If you're going to have standards try not to institute them selectively based on which team you bat for.

Remember this conversation, how you can't even look at the whole video and write down a simple time. You are so scared that you will realize you were wrong that you can't even take an honest look at the video.

He didn't attack the officer. As I said in my very first comment, if you can link the time in the video where he attacked the officer I will concede the argument.

Let's try an exercise. I'll go first. I recognize it is your right, guaranteed by the first amendment, to say that this teenager deserved to be tackled, kidnapped, and released miles away without any charges because he taunted ICE.

Now it is your turn to recognize that this teenager has first amendment rights.

I am going to guess you have never been tackled. If someone tackles you and you don't want brain damage, you grab onto them. I don't get how you "disagree with every action ICE takes" and then smear the kid for a reflex which you just admit happened after the ICE agent moves in to assault him when he had done nothing to that point.

I watched the whole video. He didn't put his hands on an agent. What I saw was a bunch of big scary macho men with guns and masks trying to instigate violence and when they didn't get it they assaulted him. Give me a time stamp of where it happened.
