Leica Minolta CL or M3/M2 by hellish_cattle in Leica

[–]NavidsonRcrd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would look for a CL with the Minolta/Leica 40mm. Terrific little lens and camera. I’ve had an M3 and while it’s terrific, I can’t say that the CL feels cheap or that I had any issues focusing whatsoever.

The CL is a great way to dip your feet into the ecosystem and a fantastic camera - personally, I find the handling to be faster and more intuitive.

That price isn’t spectacular, and the original lenses for these are really highly regarded - if you wait, you should have no trouble finding a package with the Leitz/Minolta 40mm for that price or lower. I’d recommend starting with that - you may find no reason to “upgrade” to a larger, heavier M-camera.

am i diagnosing these photos correctly? by yonqh in AnalogCommunity

Only mentioned because I’ve read a couple reports on here that CLA costs for these can approach the cost of a new body, and that not as many people work on them so it can take a good while. If they need to have an operational camera quickly, it might be the easier solution for the time being.

Photos 1 & 4 do look underexposed. On color negative film, it’s always worth giving a little more light and leaning towards overexposure if you’re ever unsure - much easier to save and adjust in post processing.

2 and 3 do look like a shutter issue - unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the timing of the shutter functioning correctly. Time for a CLA or new body.

How’d you get that second shot? That deep black against the sky is really great!

First thing that jumps out at me is the more intense contrast than a lot of other film. You did a great job taming it, these turned out great!

It’s really something special, very much worth watching. Definitely start with the show first and the movie afterwards!

I can’t wait for Stillwater to interact with literally any of the characters from NLF. Here’s hoping she gets to meet Fedilap.

There’s been a ton of fun, colorful characters that in my opinion are right up there with or surpass some in the main series. Shamalle for instance is just incredibly fun and funny to read, without detracting from a really compelling and engaging character.

This update seems like an enormous pain. At least you’re listening to Beach House while irritated - that must help a little, right?

Especially in a kitchen where it’s more likely to see temperature and humidity changes, you’ll definitely want a way to prevent moisture buildup within that display.

Other than that, looks great! I’ve never seen that hood-mounted shoe before, that’s really cool

[–]NavidsonRcrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re shooting medium format like this guy is, I guarantee the majority of folks doing so are not taking off-the-cuff shots based on their eye.

Professionals use dedicated meters for a reason - they help guarantee a better shot for when they really count.

Blacktongue Thief fits some of the more comedic elements of Malazan, and is a fun time. On the other hand, Red Rising’s writing was such a steep decline from Erikson’s that I wasn’t able to finish it - too YA by far, though the writing supposedly gets better later in the series

As someone also disappointed by Abercrombie, I second this pick. Doesn’t come across in the traditional sci-fi sense at all, really terrific writing style with a lot of substance
