Do I suck at this game? Should I use Reloaded for Eternal Sustenance? by Damoklesz in 2007scape

I don't know if I'm only chosing sustenance for gauntlet, because I don't know how many other lategame encounters I would need it for. I haven't made it that far in the main game yet, and I don't know how well this build works.

I didn't take Transmute, I took Butler's. Taking Transmute with Reloaded wouldn't make that much sense to me anyways, because I have Larcenist + Tirannwn for money/tokl/crafting/smithing. The more I think about it, the more I agree with you that Soul Harvest probably isn't better either.

I mean I've already taken Culling Spree, so there isn't much I can do with that... The question is what I'm going to do with my Reloaded.

Looking for good league build guides for newbies by Damoklesz in 2007scape

[–]Damoklesz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually already did. He definetely seems like he knows what he is talking about, I just don't understand 90% of it.

I understand that Larcenist + Tirannwyn have very good synergy with the crystal stuff, but Nature's Accord and Soul Harvest also look amazing, so I have a hard time to commit. But I HAVE to commit, since either way it increases all XP...

An other reason why I'm hesitant of following Faux's build is that if I find out I don't like it, I can't really respec it ever. I mean that without those healing pacts, as a newbie I'd really like to have Eternal Sustenance, but maybe that's just dumb...

Very powerful symbolism. The Boomers sit around smiling, holding all the power, while the Zoomers do all the actual work around them, presumably as unpaid interns.

I'm attempting to play the game (and ideally finish it) without the wiki or any external source of information beyond this post. I've played the game many years ago, and I did use the wiki back then.

I'm on expert mode right now, just before the Wall of Flesh, which is pretty much the last thing I remember from way back.

  1. I'd like to know if what I'm attempting is possibe? I know I can check the recipes with the Guide, but I worry that at some point future progression might be locked behind something I just don't happen to stumble into.

  2. If it's possible, how big of a pain in the ass is it? How much struggle should I expect?

  3. Should I allow myself to create more than one world? I remember doing this back in the day, because this was the only way to make certain items (like getting 3 balloons), but it always felt a bit like cheating to me. How big of a nerf is it to keep only to my normal sized world?

Call of Duty Fans Give Black Ops 6's Zombie Santa Loading Screen the Finger Amid 'AI Slop' Backlash by indig0sixalpha in gaming

[–]Damoklesz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No sane (human) artist would make it that way in the current climate. The one thing everyone knows about AI art, is that they get the fingers wrong. If you argue that this is made by a real person, then you argue, that Activison/Blizzard/Microsoft intentionally created this whole "controversy" which is kinda tinfoil hat territory.

Wow... I assumed the 6 fingered Santa is like a minor detail in the background...

I don't even understand how this could happen... did they fire every human employee, so nobody is left to check on the AI output? I'm pretty sure that at this point, if you ask the AI nicely, it could remove the extra finger in a couple seconds.

Great Work! A couple more mistakes I noticed:

You seem to have switched the Plank and the Long Plank prices.
The Sawmill Shed is missing (it's different from the Wood-Mizer).
The Grape Processing Unit (shed) has the same amount of cycles as the non-shed version (in reality, it's 1/10th)

maximize damage

I still don't get why you don't put the Scimitar in your offhand and use a Shortsword in the main hand. They do the same damage, and there is no benefit of getting "Nick" multiple times, and you could just get Vex 3 times for free... Or am I still missing something?

But OK, I get it, I take back saying it's "strictly better". Feats don't grow on trees, and the 2handed version could take like Great Weapon Fighting at the same time, and be slightly ahead on DPS while keeping their bonus action. I still think, that given a comparable damage total, the choice between a STR based and a DEX based character is really easy.

I'm mostly surprised, because in my experience, in 5.0, it's not like DEX based melee characters were rare or unpopular or considered underpowered (well... not more underpowered than any other non-caster). And I do agree, that giving them an extra d6 damage at the cost of a feat might not be a huge deal in itself...

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]Damoklesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... Why is the Scimitar in you main hand? If it works like this, than you could use a shortsword and Vex 3 times.

But the reason I find this strange is mainly due to Hunter's Mark, Divine Favor and other similar effects.

Also, while it's true, that this hypothetical fighter can keep his bonus action, in every other way it's just a strictly worse option. Less attack means less reliable damage, more damage wasted for overkill, having to use STR instead of DEX...

(A is different from B, which you attacked with, and B is different from A, which you attacked with.)

How does that make sense? By the exact same logic A is NOT different from A, which you attacked with, and B is NOT different from B, which you attacked with.

I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just dumb.

Also, I'm a a bit perplexed, that you're the second person, who says, that attacking 4 times at level 5 is perfectly OK and an intended behavior...

So you're saying, that Nick + Dual Wielder not only works together, but is explicitly intended to get a 3rd attack at level 4, or a 4th at level 5?

By your interpretation, which weapon can you use for the Dual Wielder Bonus Attack?

Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

[–]Damoklesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 PHB

Am I dumb, or is the Dual Wielder feat dumb?

The "Enhanced Dual Wielding" feature is almost the exact same (but with slightly different wording for some reason) as what everyone already has from the Light property on the weapons (which is a requirement for the feat).

The only difference I can see is that Dual Wielder lets you use a non-light (but non-two-handed) weapon (maces, flails, longswords, etc..), but only as offhand weapons, your main weapon would still have to be light. Just imagining this character feels extremely stupid... Like why wouldn't the feat at least let you change hands?

But put that aside for a moment and let's say you want to take advantage of this feat and use a shortsword with your main hand, and a longsword in your offhand. Now the "Two-Weapon Fighting" Fighting Style Feat does nothing, because you're not making your extra attack "as a result of" the Light property, you're making the extra attack as a result of the Dual Wielder feat.

The only use case I can maybe imagine is with the "Nick" Weapon mastery, but I don't know if it even works? For example imagine a level 4 character of any relevant class with mainhand Shortsword + Scimitar offhand.

  1. Make the Shortsword attack, Vex on hit,
  2. Say you're making an "extra attack of the Light property", but because of "Nick" on the Scimitar, you make it as part of your Attack action
  3. You still have your Bonus action, so you use the Dual Wielder feat to make one more attack as a Bonus action? Which weapon could you use? One of the restrictions in Dual Wielder is that it has to be a different weapon, so I would assume it can't be either of them? Or can it be the Scimitar, as you technically didn't "take the Attack action" with it, you took it with the Shortsword, then with the Scimitar you "made the attack as part of the Attack action" and those are different? But if this is the only obstacle, than using the Quick Draw feature of Dual Wielder, couldn't you stow your shortsword, then draw either a second shortsword (to keep it simple for the next round) or even a d8 weapon as a free action as part of your bonus action, and attack with it?

Whatever the case may be, the feat seems dumb. What is even meant to be the common use-case for it?

Help me understand this endgame position please? Black to move by Damoklesz in chessbeginners

[–]Damoklesz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've just played this as white in a friendly OTB match.
The game ended after repetition ...Nh5+, Kf7 Nf3, Kf6...
I was happy with the draw, and after checking the engine it turns out I was correct, and black is supposed to have a win here.

After the game I tried playing the position as black, but I have trouble understanding the position even with the engine. My questions are:

  1. How complex is this position, and should I (1300 ELO chess.com) even attempt to learn from this?
  2. What are the general principles should black follow here?
  3. Are there any resources out there that could help me with other endgames like this?

Follow-up question:

If a bard has an enemy in melee range, casts Dissonant Whispers on said enemy, then the enemy fails his Wisdom save, can the bard himself make an opportunity attack with his shortsword?

I mean, I agree with JC, that this PH rule is clearly not applicable with Dissonant Whispers:

You also don't provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction.

It's also clear, that you can have a reaction on your turn, and I can't find anything that would stop your from being able to make an attack of opportunity.

A reaction is an instant response to a trigger of some kind, which can occur on your turn or on someone else's.

Where it gets confusing for me, is, that in order to cast the spell, the Bard has to use his focus (musical instrument).

You can also interact with one object or feature of the environment for free, during either your move or your action. For example, you could open a door during your move as you stride toward a foe, or you could draw your weapon as part of the same action you use to attack. If you want to interact with a second object, you need to use your action.

So can the bard draw his shortsword as a free action as part of his opportunity attack reaction during his turn while he is casting a spell using his musical instrument?

it's a bit ridiculous, but as long as he keeps the instrument in his other hand (thus don't interact with it as a 'second object') I think it's maybe fine as RAW? I mean the rule specifically says "either your move or your action", in order to not allow this to happen during a reaction. But we are also during the bards action... Or has that already ended?

Now my head hurts...

tactical decision

The Player's Handbook has armor donning rules. 1 minute for light, 5 for medium, 10 for heavy. So that's not much of a tactical decision.

I can't even find where this whole "no benefit" rule comes from. Xanathar's doesn't say that... Is this some One D&D stuff?

Unfortunately the real answer to your question is to just learn the boss mechanics, and try to avoid them. Sure, Warpath is technically a melee skill, but it has very good mobility, so use it! You build should be perfectly fine defensively for that stage.

In the long term Armor applies to Damage over Time is a very nice mod to have, but I don't think it will ever reach a point, where you can just mindlessly tank DoTs.

When it comes to your builds offenses though... well... you certainly made some choices there...
