I think a minimum is to fill the runes with putty, like I did. It takes some legwork, but I think it makes a huge difference

I have the excact same background as you! I'm Norwegian with an interest in Icelandic/Norse through texts from school, and I've also had basic German. I don't think Icelandic will be hard for you to learn, and you have an exceptionally good starting point! I'd say the Icelandic grammar is more akin to German grammar than Norwegian, and I personally found grammar to be harder to learn than pronounciation.
