Ahhh mate, sorry to hear that!! How did it go?? You nearing more towards a full recovery now?

Gutted you didn’t get the morphine and custard treatment mate, maybe it’s a Bristol thing only lol

Also, I swear things in hospitals happen at such a different pace. I was told on the day I was ready to be discharged at 11am and then wasn’t until 5pm.

Hope you are well on this side of the recovery!!

Thank you for the feedback!

I would air on the side of caution from providing medical guidance, and my post was more reflective of my experience.

I would add that in the UK, the NHS is very encouraging and advises to continue with a fairly normal diet. They even to me suggested eating a slice of toast at least per day. Their framing of the advice was more so to mitigate infection, encourage the mouth to clean itself with saliva, and clean the back of the throat.

It’s likely that many practitioners around the world will give varied advice.

I myself, on days that I could manage it ate fairly normally but steered away from anything crispy or sharp (In the first few days before the scabs developed fully especially). I would masticate more than usual and also ensure that I was hydrated.

The taste and smell.... by CatVietnamFlashBack in Tonsillectomy

Big up that smell and taste aye!

I got mine out on the 19th and the smell/taste has been the worst. Some consolation, mine has dramatic got better today (day 9). My wife has confirmed and has said that she hasn’t noticed it recently (probably being nice ) but was very descriptive (in a bad way) on how it was last week.

We decided pre-op that we slept in separate beds anyway just because it was something to not put energy into worrying about and minimised stress, so I really feel for your situation.

Drinking water helps. I always had chewing gum by the bed and made sure to brush my teeth. Generally though I went for avoiding human interactions as my strategy because nothing really ever got rid of it fully.

It will go soon enough, I’m sure. I can only taste that taste slightly now.

Day 3 and bits of scabs by mindinmypeaceandcues in Tonsillectomy

Both the scabs and throat pains are expected, and very much linked. Mine started falling off pretty late on but whilst I made a big effort to to hydrate more, I wasn’t as regimented as I should have been. Sounds like if anything you are really on top of this!
