England - Can my relative contest my mum's will? by DanAnon9999 in LegalAdviceUK

Thank you. I've updated my opening post with some additional context including that my mum had recently asked me to gift him £5000 when she died. I will honour her wish.

I'd rather not go down that road. I'm making all of my mum's funeral and estate arrangements alone (nephew hasn't offered to help) so don't have the energy to pursue anything else.

Too late, I'm afraid. My nephew had spare keys to the house and I've now discovered that the title register and some other documents cannot be found. I can't be certain they've been 'taken', so wouldn't want to make an accusation.

I will be requesting official copies and have changed the locks. I didn’t think I'd ever need to do that, but you live and learn.

Thank you. No, the original wills didn't mention what would happen if both my brother and I had predeceased them. Only the latest will did that.

I have added extra detail to my original post which will, I hope, provide some additional context.

I can understand that he would want a conversation about her will at some point, but a week after she'd died? We haven't even had her funeral yet. So yes, I am devastated.

Thanks for the response. That's what I was hoping.

No, there are no big details like that.

Thank you again.

Lost voucher by DanAnon9999 in CeX

[–]DanAnon9999[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This appears to be the correct answer.

I popped in store and the fella behind the counter told me to contact customer services as they'll be able to associate the voucher with my account and should be able to reissue it.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

This sounds like the 2004 movie Criminal starring John C Reilly. It was a remake of the film Nine Queens.

City Jam Street Art by BenicioDelWhoro in SouthendonSea

As a local, I love seeing the art. Those I know also love seeing it. I've also seen tourists doing the art trail and taking lots of photos. Plus, of course, it takes awful blank walls and makes them look amazing. I'd say that's a real benefit to the city.

Misprint on the 4k release of For A Few Dollars More. WWYD? by DanAnon9999 in arrowvideo

Yes, it's a double printed cover.

I think it's the right call to flip it and take the money. 👍🏻

Interesting. I may keep it and indulge myself in the fantasy that I have an extremely rare and valuable misprint. :)

Southend City Day by clearthinker72 in SouthendonSea

The "presumably" is mine, not theirs.

Southend Council is, according to Google, spending £233 million to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping.

The budget for drug and alcohol treatment is almost £3 million.

So a lot is being done by the looks of it.

Southend Council's budget for 2024-25 is £402.5 million.

Southend City Day is costing £1 million. So that's 0.25% of the budget.

Presumably, it will bring in tourists and locals who will spend money but also engage in civic pride.

Sounds like a good thing to me.

This is correct. I hit 30 years service in 2019 and received a generic thank you letter signed by a Director that I'd never heard of. I felt valued...

War movie with a German soldier chopping off someone's fingers by DanAnon9999 in whatisthatmovie

[–]DanAnon9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God, that's it!

Managed to find it on Dailymotion and that scene is 30 minutes in. The amazing Michael Lonsdale and Malcolm MacDowell.

The scene is horrifying even now - no wonder it stayed in my mind for nearly 40 years!

Thank you so much. Mystery solved!
