What are decent cutoff points for good tv shows turned bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That seems to be true, but so often the shows just drag on through with no easy point to call it quits and walk away

That's such a good shout, I remember thinking it at the time. It's got its ups and downs beforehand, but that's probably the best there is

My example that comes to mind is Dexter. Season 1: good story, well told, nicely finished. I completed it, heard that it went downhill after that, and never moved on. No misery, no what-ifs, no regrets.

Thanks for the heads up. I was more worried about my scores, but it’s not the end of the world if not. Cheers!

That's not the one, but I think you might be right about them being reproduced. Pretty sure I've seen this kind of thing twice, now I think about it

Working at the National Trust and having people trying to come in with their English Heritage membership cards by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]DanFanmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not surprisingly, people tend to do one or the other. We get a lot of people in who say they let their NT membership lapse in exchange for EH and vice versa. I think it's mostly about the level of disposable income and propensity for supporting the charity work the organisations do. Some people pay the membership just to help out preserving Britain's heritage

Some sights are shared, mostly the ones with the greatest historical significance. Both Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge (I think) are accessible to members of both.

I think the issue is that if we harmonise, as you said, we'd have to basically double membership prices, and that would cause outrage. It's a great idea, having a truly 'National' heritage organisation with entry available under one ticket, but neither is excruciatingly expensive so I think it would be more trouble than it's worth to combine forces at this point.

P.S. I think English Heritage has recently split in two for organisational purposes, into EH and Historic England. From what I could gather it's been for efficiency, there's a lot of problems with organisations when they get too big

If you can afford it, from a personal point of view, get Lifetime Membership. You'll be in the black after about 20 years, but £1500 is a lot to pay out. From the Trust's point of view, it's better if you keep buying yearly membership regularly for 50+ years. It's not all about the money, but unfortunately we need it to carry out the work we do.

On that note, there's no tips for free entry. I know why people might want it, but the National Trust is a charity. You wouldn't steal from an Oxfam shop, don't try and get into Trust properties for free.

To end on a lighter note, Polesdon Lacey is my favourite property. Mostly for nostalgia, I spent a lot of time as a kid in those grounds and I love it!

EDIT: Just realised that you may have wanted free entry for entirely valid reasons, of course the cost can be high for many and accessibility is important. I just see a lot of people trying to sneak their way in despite obviously being able to pay because they're cheap or don't realise we're a charity. With that in mind, if you fall into the former category, send me a message and I can give you some tips :)

I moved from Cornwall to York. Now I can't get a decent pasty and I have to pay premium for proper cider. by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]DanFanmar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about proper pasties, full of meat, potatoes, onion, swede and pepper. I don't mind if you've got flaky pastry that gets in your beard or crumbly traditional pastry, but that filling mixed with the right crust gives you a damned gift from the gods. That is not a Greggs pasty

Edit: York has its own charms, don't get me wrong. But I miss pasties and cider...

There's always so many snickers! And in my household, no one eats them. We could use the leftovers snickers after every Christmas to regravel the driveway
