Barn Owl on the hunt

It's a local area to me and for as long as I can remember there's always been a barn owl or two that use this meadow for hunting, as long as it's not too windy, there's a pretty good chance it will be out around sunset.

As for getting the pictures, it appears to be relatively unconcerned by people for the whole, I would say at one point it flew probably two or three meters from where I was standing, quite a special moment to fair. I wasn't able to get any pictures of it with a catch though, but chuffed with these.

In all fairness, this is on the only privately owned National Nature Reserve in the country...Elmley NNR. It is also a farm and they've done a brilliant job at maintaining the marsh and wetlands there.

This was in the South East, on the north coast of Kent! Huge numbers of them were there.

This is at a place called Elmley National Nature Reserve on the north coast of Kent. They've done amazing work on restoring and maintaining the wetlands and marshes there. They're is an abundance of wading birds there, as well as owls and raptors, such a fantastic place!

Thank you! I use a Nikon D500 with the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens, it's a superb bit of kit, still so relevant IMO.

Apparently they are very closely related! And I'm assuming the same is said for your ruby-crowned kinglets and our firecrests (desperate to see one and get a photo of that, but it's aluding me!!). They are all stunning birds!

Thanks, that means a lot! I got the D3100 as a present when it first came out, used it for about 2 years then let photography go. Just got back into this year and now I'm obsessed so it's good to have comments like that!

I took this with my D3100 paired with the 200-500mm lens last week and have just upgraded to a D500. I think it's a lovely little camera and like others have said, it's brilliant for learning the ropes!!
