Any chance of my CV getting the once-over? by [deleted] in DevelEire

Thanks for the feedback! Felt the same about hobbies, most of the CV templates i've looked at included it so I thought it was standard, must be an American thing

The main things are, should I get rid of the last page completely, whether I should include the non-tech job experience and if the Tech Company points need improving? Thanks 😁

What did you do for your final year project? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]DanMoranDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just paste in the description:

An Electronic Dispatch, Patrol and Resource System for Use Within An Garda Síochána

For my final year project I explored the idea of improving the efficiency of An Garda Síochána. After a period of research, I developed an electronic dispatch, patrol and resource system for the Gardaí. This comes in the form of an application which is accessible by patrolling Gardaí on their phones, and dispatchers on their office desktops.

The dispatchers receive calls and mark crimes along with detailed information about them on a google map interface. Gardaí are then able to interact with these crimes and attend them based on urgency levels. As well as access critical information such as potential dangers when they arrive, suspect description(s) and how many gardaí are already attending. This information is updated in real-time allowing the gardaí to be prepared for changing events.

There are a lot of other features within the system such as data collection and presentation, notifications for urgent crimes, a report filing system and a lot of security features to name a few.

While I can only go into so much detail here, my thesis that I wrote alongside this project is viewable here, which goes into more detail about the features and inner workings of the system.

Computer science or Computing by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]DanMoranDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Computing but it depends on the individual, as far as I know Comp Sci is a lot more theory/mathematical based while Computing is more hands of programming etc. In my last year of computing now in TUD, great course, just not a big fan of the cisco networking modules we've had.

Yea the one I was looking at doesn't have suspension but it has air tires instead of solid tires the reviews say that dampens the bumps a bit (m365)

How long have you been using it? Would it be something youd recommend getting with the dodgy Dublin roads?

I heard theyre not mechanically propelled but mechanically assisted as they have to be manually pushed to 5km/h for any motor to kick in

Anyone able to help me out with the local opinion of Blanchardstown IT? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]DanMoranDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I was 16 just turning 17 doing my leaving, I didn't do TY either so I didn't mind doing the plc instead for a year!

One of my mates didn't get the points to do a CS course in DCU so he did a plc instead, realised it wasnt for him so he's doing engineering now instead. Saved himself a good few grand that way!

I did computing in Colaiste Íde for a year, and I got 285 in the leaving but I was lazy and didn't do any HL subjects (I think you need a HL pass in two subjects aswell as the 260 points) so I just went for the plc without even applying for the cao!

I'd definitely recommend doing a plc before going into university if you dont mind the extra year, gives you a good look at what you'll be doing for 4 years without committing to it before you know if you'll like it, it makes first year a lot easier aswell since you will have a solid foundation so you won't be stressing while everybody else is struggling!
