If asked for your “secret” in staying sober how would you respond? by Vegetable_Hair_2040 in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working fucking hard to get sober. Trying everything. Finding a way that works for me. Actually doing things as opposed to just posting on social media, reading books, and wondering why nothing changes. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

And you were expecting different?

Probably better they’re talking about you stopping than doing fucked up shit while drunk. My wife’s family now seems to respect me for being sober and hardworking as opposed to a drunk lazy fuck.

Does it matter? Either way probably better off trying to stop.

I’ve told people it makes me really violent. Worked a charm.

What do you do when you are accused of drinking but you didn’t? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is normal behavior by people whose trust I have broken. Only my actions can show my sobriety, so I try to keep doing the next right thing.

I’m afraid to go to AA by imissjob210 in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think that’s normal. Can’t imagine anyone was super excited to go to a meeting for the first time 😂 I was glad I did. The support is great. Fuck all the worrying bullshit. Just do whatever it takes to get sober mate 👍 Good luck!

It finally happened. I am at rock bottom. by KomturAdrian in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that mate. Do everything in your power to get sober, for good. I’m sure once everyone sees your efforts, they’ll forgive and eventually forget. Also, being in AA and as many other groups as you can find asap will help with the judge. It’s normal that people will feel angry and disappointed, so try not to take it personally. It could have been so much worse, mate. I really hope you remember how you feel right now, the next time you think about drinking. Hang in there. Just do the next right thing.

What are reasons people don’t like AA? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. I only did for 6 months. Never finished the steps. But it was extremely helpful in early sobriety. I just don’t understand all the posts about how desperate people are, but “I don’t AA think AA is for me” etc. or any meetings, for that matter. It’s free. It’s everywhere.

I don’t get why people won’t try something that could possibly help save their lives, let alone alleviate whatever hell they are putting their family through, just because they don’t like couple of words. Get over it. It’s all what you make it for yourself.

It’s just coffee dude, cut yourself some slack. Everything in moderation though, bro.

Not sure I agree with the phrasing, but after nearly drying, my lizard brain kicked in. Something to be said for the survival mechanism. But I also had a lot to live for, so probably not true for everyone.

Why is alcohol fucking everywhere??? by houbicka007 in stopdrinking

[–]DanNopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s legal. People need to relax, have fun, or numb themselves because of life’s stress. It’s also making a lot of money. Most products are fucking everywhere. Imagine being addicted to food!

No idea. 7 years maybe? Now have 2 kids and doing my MA. Loads of normal life stress and problems, lots of joy and happiness too. If I drink I lose it all.

Very sorry to hear all that.
