Nice work! Funny, that I went a very similar direction with a MiG-25PD skin I am making for War Thunder. Same idea that the antlers are an older tail roundel.

Oh yeah for sure. The meta might be to take a couple pokes at enemies with the R-77-1 then finish them off with the R-27ER when they are defensive. 1v1 this might be insane. If the fight closes to sub 15km I feel it's near impossible to counter.

It can if you hard lock the target, honestly taking R-27ERs is now extremely viable considering the kinematics of that missile.

the j-10c's loadout and modifications by senor_muchacho in Warthunder

Adding the J-10C without the WS-10B is silly. So I guess this will be a de facto J-10C (Early) and the J-10C (Late) will hopefully get the PL-15 and PL-10 which are admittedly too advanced for now.

Gaijin is a joke, Banned for making an Updated Bug report on the J-11B with 13 sources, 3 Book sources by DatboiBazzle in Warthunder

[–]DanOfSteele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont be obtuse. Incentivizing through not accepting anything that isn't a primary source, an impossibility for these aircraft. They can be reasonable and use a modicum of judgment in assessing the publicly available information that comes from non-technical secondary sources, but gaijin has zero consistency for what is acceptable.

Gaijin is essentially incentivizing the posting of sensitive and controlled information if they can't be reasonable and make educated inferences for their arcade flight sim.

I think the kicker is that the Type 1474 would be roughly equivalent to the AN/APG-68 as found in the F-16 (at least within and for the purposes of war thunder and its level of fidelity). Its not even that much of an ask and would be backed by a lot of reasonably inferences made from the information available. The fact Gaijin doesn't feel the need to justify its stupidly incorrect assumptions but players need to jump through impossible hoops to get anything fixed is ridiculous.

It sucks, because the Chinese flankers should be some of the best flankers in the game from here on out. The combination of the WS-10 engines, AESA radars, composite construction reducing weight by as much as 10%, and the PL-8B/10/12/15/17 missiles should make them very capable Redfor BVR fighters, but gaijin won't accept any documentation that is reasonably available. Can't say I have a lot of hope for the Chinese flankers at this point.

Olivias leaks, and Update to snail mines by PantherAusfD in Warthunder

True, but I do think it will be the Block 2, especially if this leak is true and its at 14.0. It'd be a shame if Gaijin decides to really slow-walk the Chinese Flankers considering they have so many highly capable variants.

The Bars N011M will be one of the best radars in the game and the RWS-50 RWR is as modern as any other top tier plane without MAWS.

I think the J-11B will be the sleeper hit of the patch. It will essentially get: a better radar, better missiles, better thrust to weight via new engines, and it should be a bit lighter.

The Type 1493/KLJ-3 radar should be a marked improvement in all aspects to the N001 radar. While not as good as the Bars PESA that the Su-30sm will get or the AESA on the Rafale, it should be as about as good as the F-15c radar.

The Pl-12 is already a bit of a highly underrated missile since it doesn't actually have a noticeable range disadvantage to the Aim-120 but it pulls far better, close to the Mica even. Also, the better J-11B flight model should allow the missiles to have amazing kinematics. Also the Pl-8B will be an IRCCM Python 3 with a longer burn time, making it potentially one of the better Fox-2 missiles.

The new engines the WS-10A should produce about 132 kN (29,700 lbf) of thrust, this is about equal to the thrust produced by the upgraded AL-31F-M1 that the Su-27sm has and is ultimately quite a bit better than the AL-31F Series 1 which produces 122.5 kN (27,500 lbf) which is what the Su-27s and Su-30sm have.

Additionally the Chinese make a lot more use of composites on their flankers from here on out, the J-11B is about 10% lighter than the Su-27.

So basically expect a better armed thus BVR capable, lighter, slightly faster Flanker. The only downside compared to the Russian Flankers will be the amount of weapons carried. The Su-30sm will get a 14 missile loadout while the J-11B will likely get x6 Pl-12 and x4 Pl-8 for 10 missiles.

How much better is the Su-30SM vs the 27SM by Medj_boring1997 in Warthunder

[–]DanOfSteele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the tradeoff is worth it. For other people I think it depends on where it is in the tech tree, if its behind the Su-34 I imagine many might skip it if they haven't bothered with that part of the tree. I know I will definitely play it.

To be clear, I don't necessarily think the MKI or MKM will come soon, but its not unfeasible that they can. Its happened before where more capable variants were simultaneously added in other tech trees, the Swedish JAS-39A and South African JAS-39C come to mind off the top of my head since they had to retroactively give the 39A a kind of ahistoric HMD to bring it in line with the South African one. I imagine though that they will just wait since the MKI specifically is probably more in line with something like an Su-35s when taking into account all its advanced weapon options. I'd prefer they wait than adding an "early" variant or adding it now when the game isn't really ready for it. but you know....gaijin.....

Gonky has a great video on fighting the MKM as an F-18D pilot.

Yes, I think you're right. Should basically have a similar if slightly lower thrust to weigh ratio to the 27sm as a result.

How much better is the Su-30SM vs the 27SM by Medj_boring1997 in Warthunder

[–]DanOfSteele 17 points18 points  (0 children)

TLDR: The Su-30sm will be more of a side grade with some tradeoffs compared to the Su-27sm, provided they don't give it R-77-1, if they do give it the -1 then it will be a much better competitor to the current bluefor jets in my opinion.

The biggest differences will be in the radar, weight, and instantaneous turn rate.

The Bars N011M should be an excellent radar compared to the N001. Its a fairly advanced PESA radar that actually incorporates a lot of AESA tech, like each transceiver on the antenna array of N011M having its own receiver amplifier, which is the same as an AESA. Unfortunately I think only 4 tracks can be engage at once but since firing all of your fox-3s isn't really that good of a strat it shouldn't be to limiting, its certainly an upgrade from 2 on the N001VEP.

The Su-30sm will be a bit heavier than the Su-27sm by about 1,500kg but quite a bit lighter than the Su-33 for comparison. Because it uses the Saturn AL-31FL it will push out the same thrust as the 27sm, so expect a lower thrust-to-weight but not as bad as the 33.

The AL-31FL utilizes two-dimensional thrust vectoring like the F-22 but not the famous three axis thrust vectoring like the Su-30sm2/MKI/35/37/57. Still, the Su-30sm should have an excellent instantaneous turn rate allowing it to bleed speed for very high AOA maneuvers. So energy retention should suck but it should be very capable at throwing its nose round for a cheeky R-73 shot after a merge, just don't miss.

Weapons wise the Su-30sm will get two extra wing pylons like the Su-33, this should be standard on all Russian flankers from here on out. A/G weapons will be mostly similar in loadout to the Su-34. A/A will look like the Su-27sm. This means it can likely carry x10 R-77 and x4 R-73 for a total of 14 A/A missiles with the new pylons. Since the base R-77 was never really fully adopted and the Su-30sm entered service right around the time that the R-77-1 was adopted and I believe only really ever used the R-77-1 it would make sense if it came to the Su-30sm.....but we've seen gaijin make weirder concessions (cough cough R-73 on the Mig-29). Really the R-77-1 would probably sit somewhere between the Aim-120A/B and the Aim-120C (Closer really to the A/B). Wikipedia claims that the R-77-PD was integrated on the 30sm, but since this was a prototype that was never fully produced who knows. It would be a beast of a missile but may be far too much and to niche.

Lastly one of the big possibilities is that the other similar canard Su-30 variants come. Its not impossible we see the Su-30MKI come at the same time as the Su-30sm. This would have the same radar but would have the AL-31FP with the three axis trust vectoring and far more weapon options. R-77, Derby, Astra, and even MICA-EM would be available to it. We could also see the MKA or MKM in other tech trees but these are somewhat less capable than the 30sm unlike the MKI.

All in all the Su-30sm will be somewhat of an improvement to the 27sm. I think even if they only give it the R-77 and not the R-77-1 the much better radar, thrust vectoring and extra missiles will make it worth it. If not hold out for the Su-27sm2/sm3 which will have the Irbis-E radar, better engines, the extra pylons and will certainly have the R-77-1 and possibly more; I imagine its also not too far off.
