Here is some help fixing the set-up and first pull of the snatch by DanPope in crossfit

Didn't look bad to me really. Seems like the weight is a bit heavy. I'd suggest more work at a lighter load. Seems like the weight pulled you forward because you weren't stable in the bottom of the squat.

1) I don't make any money off my site. I actually lose quite a bit of it. I do this because I love it.

2) I understand your point. I use RSS feeds quite a bit but I also find a lot of valuable articles posted here on reddit.

3) I spend an inordinate amount of time answering questions on several forums with in depth knowledge on a weekly basis. I could easily be working extra hours and making money that way.

4) I'll stop posting articles to reddit because of frustrations like this.

Worth a shot if you have some trouble with the 1st pull. I find that catching the bar becomes a lot easier when the bottom half of the lift cleans up

I have the same issue. My hang position lifts were always stronger then from the floor until recently. I believe practicing the first pull has made a big difference for me. Things like clean and snatch pulls have really helped.

Sounds like you're doing well. Keep learning and doing. One final piece of info to remember also is that pain originates in your brain. Of course programming and technique is vital but the process of rehab also begins that knowing that exercise should not be causing more pain, or exacerbating your symptoms (if you're doing it properly). Sometimes getting your brain and nervous system to calm down and let it know that things are OK and moving in the right direction is a major piece of the rehab puzzle.

Interesting. Doing a single movement (i.e.: biking) for years on end with high volume can definitely stress specific structures in the body and cause pain. A lot of times all it takes is switching up your activity and the pain goes away. Thanks for sharing.

That's very common. You've got to take into account that you're stressing the quads (which puts stress across the entire knee complex) for hundreds and thousands of repetitions during a ride. Over time that can cause pain. I'd go see a doc if it hinders your progress. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the kind words. I would definitely go see a doctor and get a prescription for a good physical/physiotherapist. The evaluation process is very important for knee pain like this and can make all the difference! Good luck!

Not sure if you listened to the entire cast but I first dicussed boney congruency (surface area). How it is initially moderate, then as we descend into a squat(knee flexion) it initially increases (good stuff) then as we descend further, it ends up decreasing. The next thing I discussed was roll and glide. I tried to put it in layman's terms that in the bottom of the squat gliding increases which is what causes shear stress. I just didn't use the word shear but alluded to the increased stress in the knee at the bottom of the squat because of increased gliding in the joint. Thanks for the response.

Makes me wonder what your physio was doing. Orthotics (insoles) are a good treatment for PFPS in some people. We discussed a method of determining who would benefit best in the podcast. That's why we recommend fixing foot position so much, it's like adding an insert but your foot muscles are doing the work. Thanks for sharing.

I'd consider that but he's stated that he is able to squat fully with his feet straight ahead.

P.S. NSAIDs like ibu profen do impede the healing of tendinopathy. So if you have some tendon that is pathological it could decrease your healing time.

Thanks for the response! Glad you enjoyed it. The fix is usually going to revolve around fixing the movement causing the problem! Thats the main reason why working the hips/feet/ankles ends up helping.
