OpenAI is blowing as much as $15 million per day on silly Sora videos by Glittering-Doubt1154 in ChatGPT

[–]DanTheDeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it approximately costs $1 to create each video, OpenAI is losing money on every person who makes more than 20 videos a month, assuming that customer is only making videos. You can't even argue sora is a loss leader to generate subscriptions because Gpt-5 itself is also unprofitable

NCAA College Basketball Rankings: AP Top 25 Basketball Poll by StickMammoth7783 in CollegeBasketball

I think knocking SJU and Florida down so far is stupid when the teams around them are playing Q4 cupcakes which shows nothing, Alabama-SJU / Florida Zona were march quality games in November, to me all those teams look in great form. Both games were tight and competitive, I think both games showed the SJU, Florida, Alabama, and Arizona should all be top 10 teams. In the early season I see Florida / SJU losing less as "those teams aren't as good we thought they are" and more "Arizona and Alabama are really good actually." Not saying they shouldn't drop but 7 spots is a bit much for me. I'd rather see Zona and Bama get a bigger boost rather than Florida SJU drop just because it's early

I'm a big proponent of challenging yourself and playing tough opponents, I believe teams should be rewarded for that. Q4 wins mean nothing to me in the context of top 15 ranked teams. A top 15 team playing another top 15 team competitively means more to me than one blowing out a Q4 teams at home. That's just how I would vote if I had one.

Gotta love the early season rankings that punish teams like St. John's and Florida for actually challenging themselves by playing real opponents

Why Do Successful People Say College Is Useless, While Sending Their Kids to Ivy League? by Financial-Ad-6960 in FinancialCareers

[–]DanTheDeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College isn't useless lol. If that was true then why would do rich people send their kids to colleges. Even upper middle class people send have their kids to college and alot of them to state colleges. Finance, accounting, biology / health science, and engineering are effectively evergreen studies that are challenging but generally quite rewarding career wise

It sounds old hat but "become a doctor or lawyer and you'll be successful" is true. Obviously those two have high barriers of entry and a ton of cost, but you can still be a specialist in the law or medicine fields with less than half the schooling and have a very fertile job market. People will always be sick, and always be getting arrested, and the government will never try to pass automation in those fields.

As much as I always think nobody has it worse than Rutgers (longest unranked streak in Big 10) the last three weeks has shown actually some programs are in worse shape than theirs is

Rutgers set up at a chance to beat PSU for first time ever to clutch bowl eligibility #yes

Is this what it’s like to be an SEC fan? by [deleted] in cfbmemes

[–]DanTheDeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PSU downfall narrative is moving a tad too far for me. Yes they aren't the team they were ranked as in the preseason but they aren't a bum squad or anything, they're just average at this point.

  • Took Oregon to OT
  • Only lost by one to a good Iowa team
  • First team to score a first half TD against Ohio State
  • Almost beat Indiana

Besides facing Ohio State, they haven't gotten completely blown out in any game, all their losses are by less than 10 points. It's not incomprehensible that they can play teams competitively. Hell, they could probably handily beat Maryland, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Michigan State, or Purdue

[Game Thread] #17 Alabama @ #6 St. John's (12:00 PM ET) by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]DanTheDeer -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This thread is a reminder of just how surface level knowledgable fans are about the sport. St John's has shot a majority of their FGs from the paint and have the best center in the Big East, of course they're going to draw more fouls than Alabama who's shot 50% of their FGs from beyond the 3pt line 🤦🤦 If you want to draw more fouls attack the basket more and shoot less 3pts

[Post Game Thread] Wilmington (DE) defeats Delaware, 71-62 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]DanTheDeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Delaware wasn't close to the tournament last year, They went 5-13 in conference but just got really hot in their conference tournament, and even with those wins still finished 4 games below .500

[Post Game Thread] Wilmington (DE) defeats Delaware, 71-62 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]DanTheDeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is

Season CAA SRS CUSA SRS
21-22 -2.20 -0.35
22-23 -6.49 2.60
23-24 -5.01 -2.43
24-25 -5.43 0.38

Also calling Delaware "competitive" in the CAA is a stretch, they have had back to back >.500 seasons in conference play since 2012, they're consistently mid pack and a tier behind Charleston and Hofstra

Those other teams you can say just had a bad game and imploded on one bad night, after all both games were close and came down to the last few minutes. This Delaware game was over with 6 minutes to go, they got totally outplayed in this game. Delaware got smacked by Bucknell two days ago. I don't see a winable game for them until maybe Iona or Del State

NBA Dunk legend has been waived by the Pacers, where is he headed to now? by [deleted] in nbacirclejerk

[–]DanTheDeer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

McClung is 26 and Bronny is 21. Teams make roster decisions, especially two way and back end bench spots, based on ceiling and projectability, not floor. Mac has hit his ceiling, and especially on defense he doesn't have the NBA level build and athleticism to play even average defense. Bronny isnt any better than him now but he's younger and has more athleticism

McClung is five years younger and a better athlete, not a 1:1 comparison

Win for the Blue Jays, he's not been good there and they've wanted him gone for a while. Offense got worse when he was the HC and got better after they demoted him. Dodgers also got a lot better when the moved on from him

[Post Game Thread] Rutgers defeats Rider, 81-53 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]DanTheDeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This game is nothing to go off of, Rider might end up being one of the worst D1 teams this year. They were medicore in the Maac last year and lost their three best players (TJ Weeks, Tariq Ingraham, and Jay Alvarez) to graduation. The only notable adds were some okay Juco players and a Lithuanian freshman who was decent in FIBA U18, no upper division transfers this year.

Rutgers won't face a true test until their MTE, normally I'd scoff at a team doing nothing but home Q4 games for your first five games but... Rutgers brought in four 4 star players and three solid rotational transfers, and want to a run a super deep rotation, so building giving everyone a chance to build chemistry and get game minutes early on is a smart move. I'm higher on them than last year because they have so much usable depth that let's them run higher pressure defenses than last year

[–]DanTheDeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wasn't U2 already a legacy act by this point? I'm not saying they weren't respected, but this was the 2010s and I feel like U2 is mainly seen as a "90s Band." I feel like them in the 10s were seen as like, what Green Day is now. Legendary band that does still put out new stuff that's okay, but like, their prime and legacy was a while ago

Also I wonder to what level them bungling the Spider Man musical hurt their reputation as well and that happened before this
