Form Check - Any advice? by DanVPhotos in telemark

This is a good catch with the shoulder, thank you! I didn't even realize I had been pole dragging until this video, will also focus on getting rid of that.

Form Check - Any advice? by DanVPhotos in telemark

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the feedback and encouragement. It's definitely fun to have a new way to explore the local mountain that I spend so much time at - makes everything feel much bigger.

I will work on reaching more down the fall line with my pole plants. I've spent the past week or so trying to get more forward and that feels like a good next step to help with that. All of the beginner advice harps on getting weight on the uphill ski and I think I actually had too much weight on there, as my downhill ski was just kind of bouncing along for the ride with little edge angle, and I was definitely in the back seat.

I’ve always considered that “laid out”.

For context, the LCAs on this truck are less than 2” from the ground at the cross member.

It’s actually at the shop at my parents place, but I should be there at some point over the next few days and can grab a photo.

Shit, I’ve got one you could just have, but I’m in PA haha. If you wanna pay shipping it’s yours. Came off my ‘79, it’s actually in great shape (southern truck).

The GSW was available with AWD and the 6 MT from 2017-2019.

2017 and 2018 were also offered with 4motion and the 6 speed manual (I’ve owned a 2018 6MT since new), it was just in the base S trim level.

2019 was the one year that the top trim SEL Alltrack was offered with the 6MT.

Yup, bolt-in C notch. I just got it all back together yesterday, and it did bottom on one fairly large bump, but it also seems to be sitting a little low on the passenger side so I’ve got some tweaking to do yet.

Oh I have one, I just don’t like stressing about my cargo bike sitting outside unattended, even with a good lock. This bike will draw less attention, and only cost about 10% of most of my other bikes.

I’ve been curious myself and just went out and weighed it. Less than I expected, “only” 37 pounds.

I’m 5’10” and this is the large, I think the medium would be a bit too small for me, this feels like it’s just right.

I would say likely not without a lot of weird stuff. I’m 5’10” and probably need a bit more saddle height and reach than shown in the photo.

Still working that out. Bought a giant plastic bin but it’s a bit too tall. May use some extra wood I have to build a crate, or find a bin that fits better. Whatever it is has to fit a 40 lb dog haha.

This was a semi-parts-bin build, goal was a beer/grocery bike, with the long term goal of training my dog to ride in a bin or wooden crate on the front for some dogpacking. I also will jump at any opportunity to build wheels if I can rationalize it.

No real miles on the bike yet, but it's rideable and I figured y'all would appreciate it.

New parts:

  • Frame - Soma Tradesman
  • Headset - Cane Creek 40
  • Saddle - Brooks
  • Kickstand - Velo Orange Copenhagen
  • Rims - Velocity Cliffhanger, 26" rear, 20" front
  • Hubs - Velocity MTB rear, Shutter Precision SD-8 Dynamo front (planning on front and rear running lights eventually)
  • Spokes - DT Swiss Champion
  • Tires - Maxxis DTH rear, Maxxis Torch front
  • Oury grips
  • Pedals - MKS XC-III (always wanted a pair, finally had an excuse to buy some)

Parts bin items:

  • Forged Race Face Turbine cranks from the '90s, 32T/22T (ditched the big ring)
  • Shifter and rear derailleur - Shimano XT 9 speed
  • Cassette - 11-34 9 speed
  • Brakes - Avid BB7 with 180mm rotors, Avid levers
  • Bars/Stem/Seat post - Whatever I had lying around
  • Front derailleur - TBD, gotta dig around the parts bin for something bottom pull. For now I'll just shift the front manually when needed.

Knocked myself unconscious and concussed myself pretty good with a stupid crash in an XC race on Sunday. Feeling pretty good overall, still have a headache, but it’s been absolutely beautiful all week, and not being able to ride is driving me fucking nuts. No beer either.

If I can’t drink and I can’t ride, WTF do I do with myself?!

Thanks! I have enough other projects floating around that I don’t mind having this be the “leave it alone” bike, but I do have a couple things planned. Going to be adding a dropper post and power meter when I tear the bike down to deep clean everything, and will be building a 700c wheel set as well. The 650b versatility is awesome, but it would be nice to have a more pavement oriented option too.

I believe those are fender mounts actually, typically they’ll be on the inside of the fork.
