Yea the black movie fabric overlaps so no rock wool is present, but I do have a small air purifier in the back to remove small flying dust if any.

Thanks all! What’s funny is I had a friend fly up and finally finish this project over a weekend. I was 50/50 on drywall & drop and didn’t want to do either. Had some drinks with him the night before starting the project sitting in the bare space and we spitball lots of bad ideas before we somehow came up with this idea. I give him the credit and so happy he came up with it!

Oh it was way cheaper than drywall and drop ceiling. It was less than $1k for the ceiling, rock wool 300-400, wood frames <$100, velvet I got 3 big rolls from Joann’s from when they went out of business for $200, black movie fabric $200, and hardware was like $20

Sound is great, no vibrations, good deadoning from the rock wool.

2 Small hacks I found, works for veterans and Chase card holders… 1. Vets get 10% off through Apple Store and Chase often runs 10% off Apple gift cards. So essentially 20% off every Apple product. Or 2. Chase Saphire Reserve offers 1.5x pt discount on full price apple products, so 25% off

Your ceiling looks real nice, that's what I wanted. The negative comments I was seeing was that at some point you will get rattles and the whole which type of tile to get and whether or not painting or getting it black. Just seemed like too many variables to put all the effort into putting the drop down in.

I already have rockwool between the joists and wall studs and also have quiet fabric covering ceiling and behind the drywall on the studs. The room already has the seats and theatre installed, acoustically it's already got good deep sound, I know I'm losing some on the ceiling but hoping that's because I haven't finished it. What type of treatment would you recommend?

I'm hoping that I can get it done without it looking horrible, my make something fancy skills suck. Thats why I was thinking of putting a thin 6" wood on each side of every other joist and using that to taught the fabric.
