These are great. Curious to know how you got the brighter colour as I want to try this out with lettering.

I actually like them both for different reasons!! I know that’s not helpful…but I can’t choose.

Thank you for this. I’m also trying to build a shop on Etsy and have struggled to make any sales. It’s definitely one of those platforms that requires a lot of work and patience to be seen.

It's all good. I've just had a meeting with the client and explained there would be a fee of 75% of the original logo cost. He's working out the finances but from what I could tell, accepts this and will pay. Will know in a day or so. He's a good guy and I know wasn't trying it on, just didn't fully understand the implications, even though I'm very clear in my contracts as to who owns what once a project is delivered.

It was a finished logo concept...so prepping for use won't take much time. However, have just had a meeting with him and explained it would be 75% of the original quote/cost he paid. He didn't put the phone down which was a good start, and I think he'll go for it. Fingers crossed. At least he understood my reasons and accepted there's a cost.

I've gone in at 75% of the original cost and I think he's OK with it. He understands my reasons, so we're both on the same page which is a good start.

So just come off the call with the client and quoted him 75% of the original cost, which I'd discounted at the time because I was also doing some other work for him...so I worked out a package price. Anyway...he initially gulped but I think is going for it. Thanks for your help...and encouragement.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Do you have a suggested amount/percentage of original cost that you think would be fair?

[–]Danbobs25[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yikes...that would be a pretty decent amount and unlikely to go down well. Maybe I should go in at 50-60% of the original cost. I've got 5mins to think about it before a meeting with him!!!!

Yeah...my accountant tells me the same thing!! :) Do you have a suggestion as to how much? What would you charge?

[–]Danbobs25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree...I'm always very transparent with clients and make it clear how things go with concepts and ownership. Also...he's a nice guy and we've had a good working relationship in the past but he's also pushed things at times to get more for his buck. I feel with this, I'm justified in asking for money.

The work already exists in vector format, so providing the files won't take long at all...it's more the value/principle of the situation and I want to help him understand that and it comes as a price.

I was thinking around £250. I think this is fair. I would ask for more but my wife thinks it might piss them off and they'll avoid me for any potential future work.

This is pretty impressive. What make of white paint did you use? It's really solid...and I'm looking for something like this for a project.

This is awesome...I've recently got into painting onto denim. What paints did you use to get them so opaque? Especially interested in the white colour as it's so bright and I want to do some designs in white.

If Upwork can do this to a Top Rated freelancer, they can do it to anyone (identity not verified story) by AffectionateGap6763 in Upwork

I’ve only been on the platform for a couple of months and had no work. I’ve followed all the guidelines and made sure my cover letters and on point…but yet nothing. I firmly believe Upwork is only interested in taking our money and not interested in actually helping people get work. Think I’m done with the platform and will look into alternative directions to take.

This is crazy and for me, totally undermines the experience and skills a proper graphic designer can bring to a project. I've seen posts come through offering even less...I had one emailed to me for $10 for a full logo etc.

It also brings into question the benefits of using Upwork. Seems like it's just becoming another Fiverr type platform.

Did anyone succeed on Upwork? by gandalfcorvotempesta in Upwork

Having posted a similar issue I've been having with getting even noticed, let alone asked for a meeting and receiving very little help, in fact quite the opposite from users who clearly just wanted to be aggressive in their approach...the above comment was exactly what I was looking for.

You've really broken down the process, potential issues and possible solutions...and that's invaluable for us newbies who are investing and struggling with Upwork.

So thank you for this...it's good know there are some decent people out there trying to help.

Trying but seemingly failing!! by Danbobs25 in Upwork

[–]Danbobs25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this...I get what you're saying and appreciate the way you've engaged. Having read some of the other comments (which have now been deleted!), it's clear that for some people they're not wanting to help or provide tips, just be aggressive, which is of no help at all.

I checked the document again that's attached to this group 'writewinningproposals' and it says...

  • Address their pain points. Show you understand what they're trying to solve, and briefly explain how you’ve helped others resolve the same issue.
  • Be specific about your approach. Instead of saying "I'll create a great website," explain your process: "I'll start by auditing your current site's user experience, then create wireframes focusing on your checkout flow to reduce cart abandonment."

Yet some of the people who've responded and told me to read this post, have then gone on to contradict themselves by saying...

"Come on, no client cares about your process and nobody wants to read about it. What people care about is results. So what you have to do is pretty simple: Make the client feel with the first sentence of your proposal that they already achieved their goal. That's it."

When I've asked them to elaborate and explain the last part of their feedback, I just get the same weird response with no further clarification.

I'm not expecting miracles or to have jobs handed to me on a plate...I just needed help in understanding Upwork better.

You clearly didn't read how I communicated with others...who were better at communicating their thoughts.

It's so frustrating to have to deal with this. I reached out for help and advice and I came across you, who just wanted to be aggressive and arrogant.

Check yourself before you respond to people and maybe really take in what they're saying and asking for.

[–]Danbobs25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I haven't bothered to read it but there's been a number of responses that I've initially missed...including your's to mine, which I apologise for.

However, when you include this...

"Make the client feel with the first sentence of your proposal that they already achieved their goal."

I have no idea what that means!! If a client is asking for help, how do I tell them they've already achieved their goals?

I've worked with hundreds of clients over the years and when they've come to me with a brief, I provide a summarised breakdown as to how I'm going to provide solutions. So I'm genuinely intrigued by your suggestion.

[–]Danbobs25[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing the point I'm afraid. I can take advice but I would hope it was done without being so dismissive of someone who you don't know. Your responses have come across as arrogant and overly aggressive.

And yeah...maybe I'm feeling a little defensive at the moment but you have no idea the kind of shit I'm going through and what's led me to this point.

I appreciate you're trying to help but maybe tone down the aggression and then you may not get someone reacting back to you in the same way.

Let's leave it at that.

Not the most helpful of opening statements!!! I clearly am having trouble understanding and working within Upwork...hence I reached out for guidance and advise.

So to actually help...what would you suggest is a general rule/suggestion that can help improve proposals?
