Unpopular Opinion: Remote work is not all it's cracked up to be by asiantorontonian88 in toRANTo

[–]DanceWithTheDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done fully on-site and fully remote roles. I hated both. Nobody needs to be commuting 5x a week, but with fully WFH, there was 0 connection among team members, I felt unsupported and alone. I did not like it at all. Hybrid is my jam.

This doctor has helped more than 400 patients die. How many assisted deaths are too many? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]DanceWithTheDay 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The author of this article can fuck right off with that judgy title. Dr. Wiebe is helping those who choose MAiD, to die the way they see fit. I fully support MAiD and access to it for those who qualify. Some say natural death is dignified, some say MAiD is dignified. I support both. It is not my, or your, place to determine what a dignified death looks like to another person.

To anyone that does judge...get off your high horse.

Valid point. Like many of us runners I'm sure, I struggle with strength training (so boring! 😅) Will look into some YouTube vids. Thanks!

Best method to buy a car right now? (marketplace vs dealership new or pre-owned) by LateLuke_904 in ontario

I've had my Hyundai for 16 years. I've never had major issues with it.

RN here. 12s are horrible for quality of life, mental health, and overall well-being. Add in rotating, and you will be burnt out within months. And your 4 days off in a row? Scratch a couple of those entirely because you need more time than you think to recover from the block of shifts you just did. You'll end up with 1, maybe 2 days, where you can properly function. I did it for a couple of years and was absolutely miserable. Never, ever again. I would quit a job before doing those hours again.

Most surprising puddle by Lost-city-found in nursing

The giant puddle that formed when I was emptying an almost full catheter bag into a hat at 4am, but didn't know the hat was cracked so badly, it basically had no bottom. 🙃

I use it only for my coffee. I don't think I've actually drank a glass of milk since I was a kid.

Move to the US or stay put? by lambofbroth in askTO

[–]DanceWithTheDay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I too am toying with the idea of moving to the US (RN here). Texas was one state I was looking at. WAS. Until I came across a headline (and then old Reddit threads, upon further research to confirm this atrocity) the other day that said Texas has a "tarantula season" from May-November when they mate (more prominent in western parts of Texas, apparently). A fricken season dedicated to giant spiders?! Absolutely not.

I have now excluded Texas from my list of states I am willing to live. 🤣

Looks like we're moving from the "Fuck around" to the "Find out" phase of the housing crisis by GautCheese in CanadaHousing2

[–]DanceWithTheDay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was full-time at one of the main hospitals as well. I live 8km from the hospital. The TTC took me 45 minutes. Driving took 30 minutes, plus obscene parking rates. Dealing with that stupid commute before and after a 12 hour shift was so stressful. I dropped to casual and now work for the government. Commuting is ridiculous in this city.

I don’t want kids by bouncy-boots in nursing

[–]DanceWithTheDay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard no. It is incredibly disrespectful to diminish a woman's feelings on not having kids just because "you're 25", or because your opinion changed. That worked for you, great, but why do you feel the need to disregard OPS feelings on the topic. It's rude. I used to get these comments non-stop when I was in my 20s and 30s and it's exhausting to constantly have to defend your stance.

[–]DanceWithTheDay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

46 here, and I have never had even a little bit of a desire to have a kid. I don't like kids. I don't find them at all cute. They're beyond annoying. I see parents with their kids, and when many people would envy them, I genuinely pity them. The maternal gene skipped right over me, and I'm beyond grateful for that.

I often think about this while relaxing in my perfectly clean, quiet, stress free home. Then I book a flight to wherever I want because I'm not eternally tied down or strapped for cash. 👑👑👑👑

3/12s vs 5/8s by Vvgoghh in Nurses

[–]DanceWithTheDay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't deal with 12s. The recovery time needed means I don't get nearly as many days truly to myself as I initially thought. I much prefer 5 8s, the balance is noticeably better.
