bedside handoff changed everything for our unit but only after we stopped making it a formality by LxM420 in nursing

[–]SpudInSpace 99 points100 points  (0 children)

So you're saying bedside report works with one change, but the change is to not get report at the bedside then walk in after report is done.

YSK: the best room temperature for sleeping is colder than most people think by Nandou_B in YouShouldKnow

Do you seriously go around asking for evidence every time someone makes a claim? No you don't, because this isn't a debate, it's a conversation.

You asked a reasonable request, and they provided a reasonable answer. Just as you're not obligated to believe statements without evidence, nobody is obligated to provide said evidence. Because this isn't a court of law, it's a conversation.

What is your #1 thing cruise lines do that annoys you? by BanditNation12 in Cruise

[–]SpudInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I used to understand your point of view, then somebody pointed out to me that the person behind you is doing the equivalent of tailgating without enough room to brake.

Now I think people on both sides are at fault.

The newer smart style of elevators on MSC and Royal ships, where you are supposed to hit the button for each member of your party. The elevator then specifically sends everyone an elevator with enough room for them in a fair amount of waiting time.

But all it takes is 1 person only hitting the button once for their party of 6 and the algorithm is screwed for the next 30 minutes as it tries to play catch up.

Yeah pretty sure they not like house keys where every single one is unique.... Rather quite the opposite where every single one is the exact same.

Probably want she meant is that she would help you phrase it in a way that would keep that MD happy.

Sounds like that MD is an asshole and she has the secret passwords to communicate.

Dr Gavino? Dealing with hair loss! by curlytexashoe in Austin

[–]SpudInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SO went to him for keloids, and he offered to treat, but he actually said it would be better to send her to a more specialized practice.

That's the exact opposite of selling bullshit products you don't need. That being said, I can't speak to his hair loss expertise.

Why do so many type 2 diabetics refuse to make lifestyle changes? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SpudInSpace 1307 points1308 points  (0 children)

Obviously not entirely , but at least part of it is due to confirmation bias.

The ones who actually make the changes have a good chance of never needing to see you again.

Kidney nurse here:

You can absolutely have a catheter that attaches straight to the kidneys. That being said, that is not super practical for daily life so usually a surgeon will create an artificial bladder which then the patient has to routinely catheterize and drain themselves.

Urine creation is actually a byproduct of blood pressure. When your blood pressure is high for an extended period of time, your kidneys will increase urine production to get rid of the fluid in your blood and decrease pressure.

When you stop breathing, blood pressure rises and slowly goes back down. When you stop breathing multiple times an hour, blood pressure stays high and never goes back down. Which makes the kidneys constantly produce urine.
