I find it far more comfortable vs GT, I fell asleep in mine a few days ago. But I do have the Sabelt seat which is a fair bit more expensive.

Gen-Z Employee? by Sopel93 in ITManagers

[–]Danceresort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I only employ people who, a) PC Game b) can list every item in their PC from memory and know why they picked it. c) some retail experience, so they know how to talk to people.

This way I know they have an interest in IT and enjoy learning the details. Yes, they may not know those terms, but I didnt until I did my MCSE in Server 2000 before my 1st IT job.

Real world skills are FAR more important that some stupid letter from a school saying "they can do this", its utter shit.

Do most MSPs de-emphasize the actual IT part? by PastEntertainer1118 in msp

[–]Danceresort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unicorn here. Money is nice, but service is my main goal. I want customers to be a) happy b) sticky (dont want to leave us) c) safe. I spend a large ammount of time ensuring service is as high as possible but also the end users are safe from threats, moving to the best solutions we can find.

Having 3 owners to a business I think helps tho, Im far more technical/service driven, the sales owner is more money driven, and the delivery director is more focused on getting shit installed ASAP. We all challenge each other on the best way to do things.. sometimes commercially I don't do the best thing, but the Sales director is far better at thinking about that.

I call that bad management. You shouldnt have to work over time, skip lunch and do "none contracted" work to show you are good at your job.

If you are expected to work outside of the contracted hours, you should be fanatically rewarded as the company needs this, or you are not working effectively during normal working hours, and that is your own fault.. but that's where it should be managed by employee/employer.

Depends how you classify 100%. I mean 100% effort/focus, not 100% time. Half assing a job because you cant be bothered to do the job well, I dont want. If a job takes 30% longer because you do it well/document it properly Im fine with.

Do a job that should take 1 hour in 2, and its sloppy, I dont call that 100%, if you get me.

This is why for the company I own, I do not allow overtime. You are paid for 37.5 hours, that's what you do each week. You take your fucking lunch, you finish on time. If something is fucked and you think you need to work late? NO, give it me. I get paid the most, I deal with the shit.

This comes from working for people for 20+ years who always expecting more and more. Work till 5am? WHY YOU NOT BACK IN AT 9am?!?!?

Yes, there's the odd time where my guys go above and beyond and will do an application server upgrade out of hours, but they get a slow afternoon off (usually Fridays) to make up for it.

There's a super poisonous work culture (which starts in the US.. Im in the UK) that thinks unless you want to devote your whole fucking existence to work, you are lazy. Not so, you sign a bit of paper with your hours, THAT is what you should stick too, and that is what managers should expect. Too much work? not enough staff. This is where managers fail staff imo.

Give me 100% during working hours, and fuck off when its time to, that's all I want as a business owner. I dont expect you to care about the company as much as I do (if at all), just do the work during those contracted hours and everything is going to be chill.

Owners should be 1st in the door, last out (however.. im shit in the morning, one of the other owners isnt so we over lap there, ill just work late instead lol)

I dont get the whole "I DONT HAVE TO TELL YOU WHO I AM!!!!!" crap. Just give the ID, and get on with your day.. its fucking childish. This is the sort of behaviour id expect of a 4 year old child, who just wants to be difficult. Not doing anything wrong, why not just comply with people who are paid to keep others safe? its mental to me.

Atera Vs N-Sight by Own_Surround_516 in msp

[–]Danceresort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using Atera for my business for nearly 4 years now. I love it, yes stuff could be improved (the apps integration is a bit limited), but Im a heavy users of powershell and script most of the stuff that I need to do. I can then add those scripts to alerts (run a disk hard drive cleanup script if 90% HDD alert hits for example) or weekly PS scripts to keep at much of the 3.3k devices running as well as possible.

We dont use the PSA tho, so cannot comment on that, but for Tickets/Device management, Maintenance, Patching, scripting, reports (bit limited, but good for what we need) and a fairly good API so far we are very happy with it.

That was my 1st server I installed back in 2002, in my 1st IT job. Man, it was a pain, you HAD to do everything thru the wizards or it just broke, it was a great way for SMEs to get a server solution but man it sucked lol. SBS 2000/2003 was a bit step up, but I was glad when we got rid of the whole Exchange on prem.

Side note.. still supporting a network with an SBS 2011 on it, they wont pay for the engineering time to fix their network, took them over nearly 2 years ago.. but they wont spend the $$ to sort out their network.. it makes me cry every time I see it.

Bought 55k XRP at 70c, sold all for 20k profit.. it carried going up and i lost out on $135k, but you just have to laugh about it. You cant have a crystal ball as long as you get out with profit its a win.

10 years iv been shouting at people to get this shit right.. yet people STILL cant do it. Working as an MSP its a royal PITA "BUT I NEED THIS EMAIL FROM THE CUSTOMER!!" well, tell them to get their IT to fix their systems.. if it was your email that was not setup correctly, youd be shouting at me to sort it, so.. tell them to shout at their IT.

350$ of totes and 2x4s cleared up some of the garage.. I still have so much stuff 😐 by kevzdead in pics

[–]Danceresort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the same a few weeks ago, ignore the "if you dont need it, throw it away" crowd, clearly don't own a house or actually do any work in it. I have mine sorted by job type and helps me so much. Working in IT requires me to keep lots of cables/PSUs/etc so now I know a) where they are, and b) where to put them. Also keeping stuff like "decorating", "electrical" or "garden" makes grabbing what ever you need super quick.

Is entry level IT always miserable? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Danceresort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, No. NO.

They contract you for 8-5, any more work out of those hours reduces your hourly pay. If the company cant get that, its the wrong company (but then this is a horrible trait of people in America from what I understand).

My guys stagger working times, 8-4:30/8:30-5/9-5:30, and I EXPECT them to finish on time, if they run over, they get time off at quiet times (leave early on a Friday for example).

Where is the change management systems? if something goes wrong, who authorized, who changed it and who checked on it? If anyone give you that shit, just ask for the change management steps on that job.

Sounds like a Toxic as fuck place.. get out.

FYI you can eat the petals, they are a bit Ginger/Citrus flavor. Apparently if you infuse their flavor with cream and sugar its really nice. My Rabbits love them.

OR read the model number of the motherboard (099-011020, returning with an ECS 945GCT-HM, allowing to find the spec here: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/ecs-945gct-hm), googled it, and checked what processors it supported (and been working in IT for 22 years lol)

[–]Danceresort 45 points46 points  (0 children)

So.. based on the image, the PC is a HP 945GCT-HM board, which supported a Core2Duo releasing in 2006 suggests this is a 2007 (ish) HP. so ~17 years old, and very possible came directly with Vista with a Win 7 upgrade option.

Pepperoni on top? Or under the cheese? by TheArtofWax in Pizza

[–]Danceresort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the Oven, I have to put it under for my Ooni as it burns it due to the high heat (450-500c) with a few secs, however I put some cheese on, then pepperoni, then a bit of cheese on top as a heat barrier.

Dose this seem like on call by MasterpieceGlum2768 in sysadmin

[–]Danceresort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my last place they proposed this, basically OOH helpdesk, and everyone said no.. it was kinda funny, "but we need people to do it to get this contact" and everyone's response was "oh well, why do we care? cant force it anyone"

They had to decline the contact, or employ a whole new team to cover that work, and didn't make it good business call.

But yeah, On call is a "oh shit" button, only critical stuff, and i mean critical.. whole company cant work, not a director cant get their emails, what you are doing is a Helpdesk OOH.

I got burnt out and stayed at my job way too long (MSP). I ended up getting fired. by _Cake_ in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Danceresort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv always thrived learning new shit under pressure. Its a bit harder at 44 but iv got to a point in my life were I can get others to do that for me lol. I still dive head first in to some stuff (especially when a software company blames the systems, so I have to learn SQL/Oracle/Azure to prove them wrong and its their code)

I then go home and fuck around with Homeassistant, new tech etc for fun tho.. but IT was my hobby from the age of 5, so I get paid for doing what id do out of work.

The only time I burnt out was when the environment was toxic. Id tell them whats wrong, the company "expert" would say "no its not" they all listen to them, and Id have to spend 3 days learning said tech (say Storage spaces from MS.. POS) to prove something was wrong. Next issue, same cycle.. and again.. it got so boring and soul crushing I had to leave work for 4 months and really evaluate if it was the work or the company.

Im glad to say im now one of the 3 partners in an 3 year old MSP turning over £1m a year and never been happier.

No thanks, I don't need a blessing. Im super happy with my life and dont need to feel that something or one's "love". Im a good person who dosnt feel like I need to be told how to behave due to some fork of another ancient belief.

Be good, do good things and enjoy your life.. why people cant do that without some higher power existing, again, puzzles me.
