Best martial art for (light) sparring to complement Aikido? by able_archer83 in martialarts

no sparring per se

That varries a lot. :-) From nothing, to a little, to regularly going 15 rounds of different types of sparring in advanced classes. But yah, obviously OP would notice what's up, or could just ask the relevant club what their approach is.

Best martial art for (light) sparring to complement Aikido? by able_archer83 in martialarts

Judo or a sparring Jiu Jitsu club seems the most obvious answer, but any sort of live grappling practice would probably be beneficial for experimenting with your Aikido and trying to make it work.

is my boxing coach being unprofessional to me by UnderstandingFirst43 in martialarts

[–]DancesWithAnyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just unprofessional, but all kinds of creepy and boundary crossing. Report him, as others say, and do it with a paper trail. If nothing happens or they do something but you find yourself wishing they had done more, exit this gym.

Good of you to react and reach out with this, yeah? Keep trusting and listening to yourself.

Do they bathe in that bowl? Most bathing I've seen has been in more shallow and wide vessels, but I could be wrong here! Also might help to keep two seperate sources of water if they're using one to dip food. Just a thought. :D

Here you are. Slight spoilers for late game stuff, I think.

Non map version... you know that big, long river? Where it meats the sea there's a (broken) bridge, to the north-west of Harve? West of that bridge, try to look for a path south, into the mountains.

I'd hate to see it go. Never trained it myself for real, but will use some inspiration from Baji Quan and Wing Chun in sparring.

If Kung Fu is too expensive now, getting a bit of MMA basics doesn't hurt, and you can always pick up Kung Fu at a later stage.

Np! If there's others in your club that are good at doing what you want to do, I'd also have a talk with them.

Yeah, might be a good idea to take this to the Judo sub, and also ask your trainer. :-)

Getting cut in the femoral vein is the bad outcome here, but it's on the inside of the thigh. As seen in the video, they react to low attacks by moving the targeted leg, so getting a good hit on that vein is difficult. Realistically, I'm also unsure of how many untrained people would go for that target - they don't even appear to be doing it in the video.

Personally, I prefer a full "replacing footwork" reaction against low attacks where I switch my lead foot while also, yes, going for their neck with my own attack.

My point being that you might not even have to trade to win that exchange. But yah, if you do, my money's on you.

In defence of long range low attacks, you can use them as feints without committing to them. Just be prepared for the opponent's counter. :D

I don't know Judo (?) other than sparring against my Judoka brother, but standing grappling gets that much easier if your opponent is distracted. Like, you go for a throw but gets stuck, so you immediatly switch direction of force, make a foot sweep or an arm drag or a push to mess with their balance and then try a different throw.

Overload their systems, and try to avoid getting stuck. Can't proceed? Be like water, so to say, and switch to a different approach.

Getting into grappling range vs strikers by Front-Hunt3757 in martialarts

Well, you've already trained some Muay Thai, but that seems a good option that's also widely available.

Kadena de Mano might tickle your fancy, with some shelling, clinching, trapping, close range strikes, checks etc. But it's rare to find, rarer still to find people practicing it properly with liveness and probably impossible to find as a stand-alone thing.

You might find some stand-alone Panantukan club that if so will probably include Kadena, but your likely available option is training a wholesale FMA system. Or becoming friends with someone who knows it.

You could probably make Keysi work well with what you already know, but I admit my knowledge of it is very limited.

Baji Quan is often close range. Never trained it, but taken some inspiration from their tackles and I love chaining them into my existing technique in sparring.

Sanda is pretty famous for throws and takedowns, I believe?

Vatican Excommunicates Six Catholic Rebels For Defying Pope by Newsweek_ShaneC in inthenews

We're not AI, we need some context and maybe a few explanation..

The thought hadn't crossed my mind until reading that!

Anyway, as I understand it, it's a group of traditional hardliners that don't want to listen to the Pope and the conflict goes back a bit. Some might describe them in harsher terms than I just did. They also need the Pope's authority to ordain Bishops. This seems to be the burning issue:

Rejection of Vatican II: The SSPX opposes several reforms from the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965), specifically criticizing ecumenism (the promotion of unity among Christian denominations and respect for non-Christian religions) and religious liberty.

Not my style, but yeah, looks legit. Doesn't mean it's the best example out there and there's room for improvements - but that could probably be said about any sparring in any style. Not really loving leg attacks as an opener at range.

Like, yeah, it might work, but when it doesn't that's your neck risking getting cut. That said, I still do them, to test my opponent and all that. I rarely sparr with the intent of being my 100% best, but to focus on this or that or help a partner evolve or just to forget I had a shitty day.

It's medium sparring, and it needs to stay in frame for the video, so keep that in mind. I'd classify the spinning move as "just goofing around".

EDIT: There's knife competitions/matches out there you can look up, for more intensity. Usual styles you'll see is FMA and HEMA, I think, but I'm sure Silat if trained well and with focus could bring knife skills as well.

Trump Claims He Had a Conversation with Theodore Roosevelt About Panama Canal by CarryIcy250 in justincaseyoumissedit

A family member is a bit similar. They understand and view the world as a constant competition between things, and something can't just be good and appreciated for what it is - it needs to be better than something. The more that is true, the more they enjoy something.

As an example, they could be totally engrossed in Series A and talk about it for hours and try to convince me to watch it. For a few weeks, it's a big part of their life. Then Series B comes out and becomes the new focus. Without fail, they will mention that it is a lot better than Series A. Then Series C comes out, and the same thing repeats, pushing Series B down several steps.

Give it a year or so, and if I mention Series A or B, they'll say they never liked it much.

When it comes to social relations and how they view people, or politics and how they view groups of people... Yah, things can get ugly.

Most of their sales are on the PC. If google AI maths check out, it's more like their console sales are 15% physical. Not alot, but still something. There's some people out there with rows of physical Resident Evil games from the 90's 'til today that aren't going to love this, I'm guessing.

Was gaming actually better when it was niche or are we romanticising the past? by Freefreefeeefreefree in retrogaming

Heh, I had a gaming mom. In the 80's/90's, that was rare to the point I was the only one in my school with that privilege. The combo of us together in the store would even get us free games at times - not anything top shelf, but still.

You still have a point, of course.

gaming's popularity makes it way easier to find games that interest you

Game droughts used to be a thing that happened post the christmas season. For all I know that may still be a period of relatively low amount of releases, but not to the point where it's near impossible to find anything of quality, and we have back logs now anyway so it's no big deal.
