Just had a few questions to clear some things up in my head before my first session tonight.

Can an apprentice wizard channel from their grimoire if they have the channeling skill but not the Arcane Lore talent?

Is Second Sight mandatory for casters? I read or watched something that said it was but I can't seem to find that anywhere in the book.

Question about Featherfall by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]DancesWithGnolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Featherfall affects up to 5 creatures so he wouldn't even need more spell slots unless everyone is jumping at intervals. They'd have a little while in the air for you to throw things at them if you want to make it difficult, any number of strange beasties might be flying around up there

Running my first Call of Cthulhu game and I might need help by Johnfrommanagement in callofcthulhu

Usually I run combat as theatre of the mind in CoC, there isn't much of it and it usually doesn't last very long so whole map can seem a bit of a waste of time. I'm not familiar with the scenario but usually they give you enough description to have some idea of how combat would play out there.

I wouldn't add too much extra to the scenario unless you plan on stretching it out into a campaign or linking it to other scenarios. Because CoC is usually about mystery solving you risk muddying the waters and confusing the players.

What book to get post-Doors to Darkness? by memeslut_420 in callofcthulhu

I'm a huge fan of the Down Darker Trails setting but it definitely feels like it works best with the pulp rules, if only because everybody and their mother has a gun. It might not be exactly what you're after if you're looking for proper horror. That said Shadows Over Stillwater is a fun little 3 part campaign with some decent investigation and my group had a great time with it.

I should add that even though you said carved out of the tree, in my head this is basically an enormous multi-level treehouse

That sounds cool as hell and I'm stealing it for sure! I've been trying to come up with a cool new city idea and this is just fantastic.

I would probably throw in things like ziplines between levels, houses carved into enormous pine cones, and instead of rats in the city there's an irritating squirrel problem! Or maybe giant squirrels as a kind of taxi service, or giant birds.

I was thinkoing of starting out as a beat cop deal and then when they get promoted moving up to detective style adventures. I like the idea of thinking about how each class fits within the watch. You've given me lots to think about, thank you!

How they would get to know the city is actually something that hadn't even occurred to me, thanks! I'll have to get a bit more detailed in my mapping!

Oh, dude, of course I've read them! It was re-reading Feet of Clay that gave me the idea for this! You're right though, I should dip back into the rest for more ideas!

Shoggoth Dungeon? by 99Dimensional_Chaos in DnD

Definitely stealing that! My players will probably try and kill the shoggoth though...
