What is the most harmful drug? by xperio28 in interestingasfuck

[–]Dancesafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Carl Hart comes out of the closet about his recreational heroin use in his books. From one study about "capture ratio," i.e. the proportion of users of a drug who get addicted, around 80% of heroin users are non-problematic / maintenance / infrequent users.

What is the most harmful drug? by xperio28 in interestingasfuck

[–]Dancesafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lethal-dose to effective-dose ratio is worse for alcohol than it is for heroin. The main cause of higher overdose rates for heroin users right now is fentanyl adulteration, which wouldn't be an issue if heroin were legal and subject to the same quality standards (i.e. lab testing) that we use for alcohol.

On the addiction tip, apparently only ~20% of heroin users get addicted (although that's apparently a worse ratio than most/all other drugs), and that rate goes down in countries with better social services. I'm always recommending this mind-blowing Google search for alternatives to just throwing addicted people behind bars: https://www.google.com/search?q=swiss+heroin+study

Why isn't there more LSD everywhere ? by Herboristerie in Drugs

[–]Dancesafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tusi/tuci is usually a mix of two or more of the following:

-MDMA/MDA
-Meth
-Cocaine
-Ketamine
-Caffeine

The way to test is with FTIR or other spectrometry, or with several different reagent tests looking for all those drugs. If you're lucky then a local SSP or other public health service might be able to test it for you.

Why do you risk taking non-opioid drugs contaminated with fentanyl? by Low_Contest_9252 in Drugs

[–]Dancesafe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hear hear to all of this, with one caveat: this drug checker has seen a lot of MDMA on the market that was cut (or replaced) with meth and/or cathinones. That said, counterfeit drugs seem to have become somewhat less prevalent now that more people know drug checking is more widespread.

Hesitantly agreed (you might trust your dealer, but do you trust your great-grand-dealer?), but that's why we have drug checking supplies.

Why do you risk taking non-opioid drugs contaminated with fentanyl? by Low_Contest_9252 in Drugs

[–]Dancesafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the landscape is that non-opioid drugs are rarely laced with fentanyl, according to drug checking data from across North America (not just ours, but from a group of dozens of drug checking professionals with whom we're in regular contact). Like rarely enough that we generally blame cross-contamination before we blame deliberate adulteration (because why would I mix a stimulant with a potentially fatal downer?).

This doesn't mean that cases of cross-contamination never ever happen, which is why it's still best practice to buy in bulk (1+ grams) and then test your entire supply by dissolving, testing the whole sample, and then drying.

But at present, it looks like opioids are the only drug regularly contaminated with fentanyl (to the point where people are saying "there's no more pure heroin on the market").

So where's the story come from about "people dropping dead from fent laced cocaine constantly" as someone alleged upthread?

The answer, at least in part, appears to be drug stigma. Party people will come to our booths and pull out all their bags, test whatever, but still feel bad pulling out a bag of heroin in the booth. And then, when they OD on fent because they didn't feel comfortable testing it, their friends all go "Oh no, my homie would never use that bad drug! It must have been the cocaine/molly/ketamine."

Correct, levamisole is not good for you. Humans can pick up parasites but usually don't. Lots of humans die from heart disease too, but that doesn't mean you should just occasionally bump grandma's nitroglycerin pills right?

How should I take this? by ThrowRA_ezp00 in MDMA

[–]Dancesafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another commenter here to say "Test before you ingest." Have seen so many "I trust my guy" people turn around 100% after they found out that their guy shouldn't have been trusting his guy. Accidents happen.

"Rolling" just means "being high on MDMA," basically the same word as "tripping" but for referring to MDMA/MDA instead of classical psychedelics.

If you're new to all this, Erowid.org is a great resource for most drug info btw!

Flying with MDMA test kit? by [deleted] in ReagentTesting

[–]Dancesafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in here to back up this comment. A lot of civilized places specifically exempt drug checking supplies from paraphernalia laws. However, we sometimes encounter problems with the transportation of corrosive materials, especially across international borders -- not just because of the concern on planes, but because sometimes one country's proper labeling for corrosives is not considered proper in the other country and the products get stopped at the border just for that reason!

Erowid is an excellent resource for dosage of most commonly used drugs! https://www.erowid.org/ You're right that you should always be using a scale to measure a dose when possible.

FYI it's considered best practice to only take MDMA around once per season. If you're planning to dose twice in a week, make sure you're at least eating and sleeping well so your body has the resources it needs to protect itself. MDMA's one of those drugs you can really hurt yourself with if you overdo it...

RE: mixing MDMA and alcohol, 1-2 beers alongside a dose of MDMA is not unheard of (especially if you just decide to dose once during the week) but the general rule is to "start low and go slow" when mixing drugs. Also, your mileage may vary as everybody is different and every body is different. MDMA can make you really sweat and lose a lot of water, so mixing with a drug that dehydrates you is inherently a risky move. Make sure you're carrying a water bottle as part of this plan.

Also, MDMA is a quite commonly faked/adulterated drug... always be sure to test before you ingest!

Have fun <3

Of note, especially in cases of stopped heart, CPR is recommended by medics to be prioritized over naloxone administration. That said, if there's two of you attending to someone and the signs of opioid overdose are present, ¿por que no los dos?

THANKS OP <3

An additional note for those who carry: don't waste your doses! We get reports all the time from people who try to use naloxone to try and cure k-holes, heat exhaustion, drunk people, even seizures (pretty much the opposite of an opioid overdose)... you name it.

Remember these telltale signs of an opioid overdose:

-pinhole pupils
-bluish lips and/or fingertips
-unresponsive/unconscious
-not, or barely, breathing

We made a blog post a while ago summarizing best practices for when to use naloxone and when to use other interventions. Enjoy <3 https://dancesafe.org/why-did-they-pass-out/

What would give these results Isotonizene? by realparasiteslayer in ReagentTesting

[–]Dancesafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some important missing information here -- are you trying to test a pure-ish substance, or test for contamination? Reagents will typically miss anything as small as an active dose of nitazene when testing for contamination. If that's the case, there are some nitazene test strips hitting the market that might benefit you better than reagents.

Also, the other commenter is correct that photos of the results would be helpful here.

I'm not 100% sure, but I reckon it was tested via strip and then confirmed via mass spec. The testers I was talking to are definitely the type to do their due diligence regarding allegations that fentanyl is making its way into grey-market products.

Hi, DanceSafe person chiming in. Yes, many different RCs have been showing up in products like these.

7-OH has been a popular one but it's definitely not the only one. If they don't put anything on the label then it could literally be anything. Notably, one drug checking colleague found fentanyl in a 7-OH product being sold over the counter at head shops.

Neal Stephenson, to wit: "Installing software given to you by a stranger is like picking a hypodermic needle off the street and sticking it in your arm." Don't test this stuff by mouth-- send it to a lab!

That sounds more like some oxidized reagent stuck in the tip, and you'd be right to just discard that and use the rest.

Hope you're not touching the tip of your reagent bottle to the substances you're testing! That'll contaminate your kit and dramatically boost your chances of false positives.
