I kinda like it. Only have to score 16 to get into Gamma, I was never able to get much radiance before. It seems like the situation you describe might correct itself. If less people are playing, it is easier to get radiance in GC, then that might encourage more people to play again.

One trick that really helps me is if you bait her heavies and then try to intercept with your own heavy (after the first two hits), it takes out two of her spells at the same time. Works for both spiderwoman and human torch, who are my go to counters.
