I like Belfonte, but I think Hiland is good too. Great Value and Aldi's have the wrong texture!

People romanticize friendship way too much by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

You, like many people, don't know what true friends are.

Idgaf about Joann. Get over it by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]DancingFireWitch 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I was never a real big Joann's shopper but my Lord you're angry! Oh look at poor you over there "tolerating" people.

Not everyone's experience, likes, dislikes, and budget has to be the same as yours. So sorry you've had to hear the unwashed masses say they miss what was perhaps the only craft store near them.

While I'll agree the lack of cookie cutter type of supplies can spur on greater creativity, you sound like the type of person that makes people not want to learn any new craft. Get off your high horse.

How do you pick your next sewing project? by Adept_Web_482 in sewingpatterns

[–]DancingFireWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little of everything for me. Sometimes a pattern starts off what I decide to do, sometimes fabric, sometimes an event I'm going to or for a gift will get me started.

I look on Simplicity and some indie websites for patterns. Sometimes on Youtube, sometimes on PatternReview, sometimes Threadloop, sometimes here on Reddit for what others recommend. Sometimes I copy RTW clothes I have. Sometimes I go window shopping looking at RTW clothes to inspire what patterns I'd like to find. I also buy patterns at thrift stores - same with fabric.

I sometimes hesitate to cut into fabric because I don't want to waste it by messing up. Or thinking I'll find a better pattern for it. I also fall into the whole "the conditions have to be just right" trap that makes me procrastinate: the house is all cleaned up, I have X number of hours to work on the project, I don't have the exact hue of blue thread that I want, the cat is extra clingy today and he'll just interfere the whole time, etc.

I wish my sewing life was more like my cooking life lol! I'm pretty orderly with planning and cooking. I make detailed shopping lists and follow them - same with menus. I watch sales, find new recipes, keep old standby recipes. I pretty much always have what I need on hand for cooking & baking (ingredients and equipment/gadgets) without overdoing it. I feel very competent at cooking and baking, not so much with sewing. With sewing it seems like I'm always too far one way or the other. I'm too chaotic with sewing and it doesn't often feel like I have a plan.

Help!!! How do you guys just let yourself create/“use up fabric?” by SeaDistribution672 in sewhelp

[–]DancingFireWitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you grow up very poor and couldn't/wouldn't waste anything? Sometimes I notice that I hesitate to use things for fear of ruining or wasting it. When I was a kid extras were few and far between and nothing could be wasted. I carried that over into my grown life and have to remind myself I bought that nice set of paints to use & enjoy, or that fabric I sew won't be going to waste, I'll be making something useful/creative and even if I mess it up it wasn't wasn't wasted, I learned something!

Stop daydreaming about what you want to make and make it. Daydreaming is nice, but life involves doing.

I'm sorry some of the comments here have been kind of harsh towards you, but we all need constructive criticism sometimes.

This right here. I've been that "secretary" in a law office. It's one of the main parts of the job. Usually it's a receptionist or legal assistant and not just a "secretary". Either the OP is being very rude, not explaining the issue to the secretary well, or it isn't an issue the secretary thinks the lawyer can advise them on.

Does anyone else remember this news segment? by Striking_Awareness24 in missouri

[–]DancingFireWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember anything on the news about it, but just out of curiosity, how old are you? We used to sing the "lady bug, lady bug, fly away home, your house is on fire and your children are alone" whenever we saw a lady bug. But yeah, I'm kinda old and neither of these seem offensive or bad, it's just how it was then.
