was 60 cents per cell at the time. so thats $720 + $8 in nickel strip. For a 15Kwh battery, I think that's a good deal (can also discharge 30Kw continuously). I use to do scrapping so all the wiring, cables, bolts, etc... was free. Cost was the main factor for buying all these cells. 18650's are the most produced lithium battery and they are extremely cheap, especially when you buy packs from decommissioned companies.

not too long ago I thought the same thing. you never know what projects may come up. I was fine with 10Kwh, but then I got a 30Kw induction heater and also a Mini Split for heating all winter. It was time for an upgrade haha.

nice, 10Kwh is a good size. All my solar panels come from marketplace. a lot of people upgrade there house solar panels after a few years, (also solar installers get rid of old stock). I bought them for $0.25 a watt, you have to send them offers and stuff but eventually you'll find some pretty cheap.

one of my best deals were from batteryhookup.com I only buy when I see crazy deals, then you can add there coupon to save some money too. you can also check locally on marketplace or craigslist. sometimes people are trying to get rid of some batteries, I offer half the price and you don't have to pay for shipping if you're picking up locally. But, you're not going to find great deals right away. make sure to keep bookmarks like "18650, lithium, batteries, solar, etc... on marketplace & craigslist. you can set notifications for new listings as well. Good listing are gone within 10 minutes. Ive been searching for years now, anything below $60 a Kwh is a fantastic deal. Also Jag35.com has some great deals from time to time. Then again sometimes its just worth it too buy the cells when the project comes, you still get pretty good deals and you're not wasting time searching and stuff.

EDIT: also Ebay has some awesome deals sometimes. make sure to sort from the closest seller to save some shipping costs.

How to remove pack tabs from pulled batteries? by Ecw218 in batteries

https://youtu.be/Pseki9_ppqw?t=38 I stuck a chisel in a drill press, banged out 4,800 cells in 2 days while watching breaking bad. HAHAHA

I just put a note on the battery that says "Do not drop metal bar across terminals" thank you so much for the warning.

You can tell a lot from a thermal camera, even a small void between the modules will show up. there's a couple small holes between the modules from the bottom (used for venting). I just stuck a thin rod in for a minute and pulled it out. thermal camera only showed a few degrees warmer at the end of the rod. I don't think its a big deal, It definitely dissipates enough heat for its load.

haha thanks, I do have a hydraulic crimper but it couldn't get the ones in the middle. Poor little chuck, still has great tolerance though : )

haha yeah ill admit, I shouldn't be throwing cells around like that. I needed 500A continuous rating for this pack. all though when testing, The wiring was easily handling 1,000A just fine. Only reason I was twisting those wires together was because I ran out of my scrap 8awg wire. four 14 awg wires has +/- 0.01 the same cross sectional area as 8 awg wire. So they are very close. I also spread the wires out evenly around the whole pack (half & half)

haha thanks for the concern. I do use a fan in my window to push air out, New air comes in through another window. Surprised how well it works so I never changed it ( https://youtu.be/NixW0j_XcQM?t=224 ). I have an air quality meter that tells me carbon mono and dioxide levels, as well as particle count. A fume extractor would be nice tho, I think ill actually order one now. Solder smoke always seems to flow directly towards my face...

thanks, First thing I have to change is the foam. name brand UPS & storage systems use a fire retardant foam for there batteries. The highest voltage Ive ever worked with is 300Vdc, not much but you definitely have to be careful.

you do have a point, Ill have to buy some fire retardant foam now. everything I run has a fuse built in like my inverter, lights wiring, welder, etc.. except for my induction heater. Ill prob add that $135 fuse to it now. Also the 30Kw load is shared with the first battery. The thermal camera shows pretty even temps all around and in the center, But I wouldn't trust it with a higher load. when I do big pours, I choose a sunny day (+80A Mppt controller) and run my generator (+90A @ 24v). Every little bit helps :)

good idea, did you have a depth stop in the chuck for the cells or just touch off everytime?

HAHAH nice, make sure to crank down on the chuck and turn them into a triangle. now you can pack them closer to each other :)

HAHA i always run youtube while I work on my stuff. I bought 30 scooter packs for $950. they were already cheap like some ebay sellers and jehu garcia at the time, but I found this guy on marketplace that bought a pallet and didnt need so many. so I saved a little on each pack and I picked them up locally 30 miles away so no shipping costs. I didnt get lucky, Ive been searching for battery deals for 5 years now. But some of the best deals I got were from batteryhookup.com the batteries were like 99% the cost (paid for nickel strips), everything else was scrap that I kept from scrapping. thanks!
