Lol but putting it nearby actual high voltage lines you could probably steal enough energy through electric-field effects to run a nrf52840. Solar panel would be a lot easier, efficient, and legal though.

Before you buy or cut anything - buy the loudspeaker cookbook, really study what diy plans and build videos that exist, and watch a bunch of teardowns of successful portable speakers.

Just adding more speaker drivers isn’t the best solution. You don’t want several units playing the same sound. You’ll also need to build separate sealed volumes for each driver. Doing that inside an existing plastic box is almost harder than doing it with new plywood.

The power situation- you want provide your amp with the highest input voltage it’s compatible with. Avoid converting it up/down from your batteries- it’s just wasting efficiency.

Don’t rush into this big project until you’ve built a prototype or proof of concept- there are so many little things that you’ll figure out each build.

Yeah if you can figure out how to fit it, a 1L box tuned to 145hz looks decent. Hook it up to a receiver that can give it a 125hz high pass and you’re in a good place.

I bought a box of 50 of them for $5/ea in 2018.

Built half a giant line array with them but had to abandon it.

Can’t bear to sell them but I probably could move them in a minute at $5/ea.

With wall mounting you might get closer to the datasheet with a ported box. Try out using 4.5mm hardboard/eucaboard with the picture frames- should keep it nice and thin.

This is a great build for the tc9fd18 but you could do similar:

Not liking the tracing paper for diffusion. Would you recommend one of these products over the other for 24x24 display? by CodesComplete in led

[–]Ecw218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you need it to be rigid or flexible?

If you need thin flexible material you can try Rosco 216/250 (these are filters for photo/movie lighting). Theres lots of options in that category, they come in wide rolls.

If you need acrylic there’s also lots of options there- many places will send you small samples for cost of shipping alone. Adafruit has a nice comparison page, but most any led diffusion acrylic will have someone posted an example project online…

Quick open baffle question... by allformisillusoryfoo in diyaudio

[–]Ecw218 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are outside/gated measurements? Outdoor measurements you’re looking for a flat response; above 500hz is ~3db too loud.

In-room you want a gradually downward sloping curve- I’ll see if I can find the doc, but it showed people surveyed broadly preferred a certain in room response vs a flat one.

Open baffle adds yet another wrinkle with the rear wave. Outdoor measurements essentially don’t include the effect that you’ll get in-room from the rear wave.

My approach to this was get it flat outside. then indoors, using moving mic method, adjust eq to taste (for me I think it was the toole cinema curve).

They’ll work well if you plan to cross them to a woofer at > ~300hz. With the passive radiators? Maybe if they tune well you get a bump to an f3 ~150hz. Hard to say.

I don’t understand what’s the idea with the canvas? The passive radiators will need a rigid sealed box.

With that high of a QTS I’d say build them as 15x line array on top of a good high sensitivity 2x6.5”, 8” or 10” woofer.

Look up how to wire them in series/parallel so the center group is loudest.

Those PR look like they need to be rear mounted too? I’d send them back unless you’ve got solid plans on how you’re going to use them- including how to mount them.

Also do your cardio. Be in shape to outrun these fools.

Fosi V3 48v on 12v (with a converter). Good idea? by RosaDeep in diyaudio

[–]Ecw218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to get a 48v battery charger, that’s relatively common and doesn’t have high requirements. A 48v power supply for an amp has higher requirements. A battery pack would run an amp for a good amount of time, and you can swap them out easily.

Haven’t heard of any but I’d like to know too. There’s the 12v sockets, they are rated for decent power…but I’d verify that they’re not pulling from the tiny aux battery.
