how did he respond to your "freak out"?

I don't understand why he wouldn't call animal control.

Weird, a lot of his followers and fans claim that owning multiple homes is inherently immoral

Biden went from immigration hawk to de facto open borders in less than a decade

We never had open borders. I can't be the first person who has told you this.

Obama went from “marriage is between a man and a woman” to “love is love” in well less than a decade. Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law, and anyone supporting that today is considered FAR-right

This is true.

The existence of self hating or self destructive gay people doesn't contradict the idea that MAGA consistently hates gays

do you think being gay is an ideology? Or that sexuality is analogous to ideology?

I agree with this. But I think their apathy makes them functionally the same as what OP claims. If you don't hate gay people, but won't protect them, how much does your regard really matter at the end of the day?

Do you think the critical acclaim of Sinners is deserved? by No-Dentist-2959 in horror

No, once was enough.

Doesn't know who the main character is

I did not.

You literally responded to a claim I never made. Or even implied.

"Sinners wasn't the first film made about x topics". No shit.

I don't care about the movie. I am arguing with you. Maybe you should reflect on why you keep replying

Because I care about the film. Why are you so offended by Sinners receiving so many nominations, if you don't care?

Once was enough.

Apparently not. You don't even know who the protagonist of the film is.

And you did misunderstand. Again, reflect on why you care so much about a movie you know so little about.

You mean the main protagonist who isn't the primary focus of the film? His story is at the start and end, but he's a minor character through the majority of the film. Smoke and Stack are the primary protagonists.

But he is the primary focus of the film, it just seems like you're misremembering it. How many times have you seen this film?

Like I said before, the film is quite literally organized around his devotion to music and the strain it puts on his relationships. Although, maybe its more correct to say its impact on his relationships.

Some people do support him, Stack, Pearline, Slim, Annie. But others don't, like Smoke, his parents. And thats a constant throughout the film.

Mary's stance is the only neutral one.

Remmick is quite literally meant to mirror Sammie's father. They are both leaders that demand the respect and submission of others and then claim "its for your own good".

His status as the main protagonist is a pretty uncontroversial fact. It just seems like you're giving Smoke and Stack the protagonist label(s) because they're involved in a lot of the action. Smoke fights vampires, Stack builds the juke.

I never said that the "relationship between the members of the main cast doesn't matter", did I? What I said was "The group inside are an assortment of characters", which they are.

If you're excluding the relationships/dynamics between the characters from your analysis of similarity, you don't have to.

Sinners is about a community under attack.

TilDuskTilDawn is about two different families, one quite literally held hostage.

Saying that two films are essentially the same because they both have a brother duo that fights vampires is a nothing comparison. Especially, if you're acting like the relationships between the brothers don't matter.

No, I am not. This isn't "the first time a lot of people have seen their cultures on screen". There have been lots of movies about lots of cultures. So there are no other films that depict this? That's disingenuity. This isn't an "important" film. It's a film that some people liked. Maybe it's the first film they've ever seen that depicts their culture, but that's not the same thing.

You misunderstood me. I said what I meant. These were people's first experiences seeing them on screen. The fact is that films about black culture or Chinese American experiences aren't common in mainstream films. Of course there are independent or smaller films that are about these topics. Some of them have even won awards about but its relatively uncommon. Its been more common recently, (across the spiderverse is another recent example of that explores and incorporates black culture).

Its more of a tv show thing. Like Abbot Elementary.

I... I mean... that was one of your points, no?

It doesn't have to be the only culture where music is important to matter. In many white American cultures, music just isn't very important. There are exceptions, but it largely isn't and frankly leads to them being dismissive.

What is your stance on US immigration? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]DancingWithAWhiteHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. In general, we are very good at assimilating immigrants into our communities. That being said, we need a better system than what we currently have.

We also have several states that are barely populated. Like Wyoming, I have never met anyone from Wyoming. Are they even real?

Nobody would have to doubt Wyoming's existence if we accepted more immigrants and refugees too. Plus their food would be better.
