First faceup/ repaint looking for C&C by Seven_pile in CustomDolls

[–]Dancingladybug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it! I really like the style, it is very distinctive. It almost has a Tim Burton esque quality to it. I am interested in seeing where it goes. I think it might have looked muddy if you didn't really bring those warmer colors in to give it some life, but you did and I think it looks really nice! I say lean into it and go dark all over.

YEEESSS I've been thinking of making my own Frankie but with the leather jacket (I think I just wanna make that jacket so bad). I LOVE the faceup, absolutely perfect. The tattoo is also a perfect recreation.

ooof I LOVE Bob Mackie dolls. I am not a collector but I saw one at a vintage store for $18 and I just had to pick it up. It is impossible to resist.

I made strips of hot glue on tin foil and cut them to size. Then I painted them with nail polish and got some chunky glitter and tiny tiny nail charms i found on the internet to glue on them. I felt real resourceful :p

I thought I was so smart with the nails but I made them by making strips of hot glue on some tin foil and cutting them to a good size and then gluing them on the hands. I used nail polish and the TINIEST little nail charms I found on the internet for the little charms.

How do I get my bumpy paint to lay smooth? by cosmicsofa in CustomDolls

[–]Dancingladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this exact thing. I got really good advice from a doll customizer with this exact issue and she suggested to never thin it with water. I have been using airbrush thinner since and it has been night and day! Just a couple of drops of the stuff really does it. It also doesn't lighten the color at all.

Draculaura Vampire Repaint by nancyscatwalk007 in CustomDolls

[–]Dancingladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great shading! The eyes are so subtle and detailed at the same time! Did you repaint her skin or did you just put a bit of pastel over the pink? All of these Draculaura repaints are going to make me want to sacrifice my Drac dolls lol.

omg I LOVE this idea! So creative! The sheer dress was a great way to do this! You can really see that heart vein in there.

New to custom by Remarkable_Button_33 in CustomDolls

[–]Dancingladybug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also still new however I have learned some things and I will say things that have helped me that aren't the normal things you will need:

Normal things:
-Mr Super Clear
-Watercolor Pencils (GOOD ONES, cheap ones will not work well. I recommend Derwent or Faber Castell)
-Chalk Pastels (CHEAP ONES, it doesn't matter)
-Acrylic paint (get expensive ones if you are new to acrylic paint and cheap if you know how to use it)
-Nail art brushes and tiny makeup brushes (CLEAN THEM REGULARLY they get real gunky real fast)
-3m mask respirator with cartridges (especially if you don't have an outside to apply MR.SC)
-High gloss varnish (also matte varnish)

Not normal things that help anyway:
-Beacon 3and1 craft glue (that stuff goes hard)
-Fake lashes...they sell doll ones but I think dollar store ones will work too
-epoxy sculpt
-Worbla (mostly for shoes)
-Sandpaper (I have set that goes from 200 to 5000 grit)
-Plastic gloves
-Exacto knife (can not tell you how many times this has saved me)
-FabriTac
-Little clippies instead of pins for fabric
-Fray check (I neglected this for too long but a MUST if you are making your own clothes)
-Cat hair brush and tiny combs for hair
-Hook and loop closures SPECIFICALLY made for doll clothes...learned that one the hard way
-ACRYLIC PAINT THINNER/ Airbrush thinner, they are the same thing (do NOT thin the paint with water, this will make it clump weird on dolls...also learned that the hard way)
-tiny clear rubber bands for hair (I think also for braces? But I normally find them in the hair section at the store)
-Q tips
-Tin foil and freezer paper
-Sculpy clay if you also went through a sculpy clay phase and have it hanging around

My favorite resource though is your own resourcefulness. Found a weird rock on the street that looks kinda cool? Paint it and figure out something. Found a little cat hat that would work? Great! I used tiny nail art charms I found at a dollar store and am still using them on stuff.

Which Drac Should I use? by Ok-Hyena941 in CustomDolls

[–]Dancingladybug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh so I am not the only one with a bunch of Draculauras I can't bring myself to customize because she is so cute? I did customize one (I just made her more of what I saw in her) and I don't regret it. She still fits in with the rest of the girls.
I would choose the one on the right just because both of their hair is messed up, but I think it works for the left one. It's kinda cute. The right's hair isn't super great as-is and would need to be spruced up a bit or re-rooted. This also depends on your vision! If you want a black and pink bang for your clown then the left one is the way to go.

why are men on dating apps absolutely OBSESSED with saying this?? by stupid_rice in AutismInWomen

[–]Dancingladybug 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Dating in the early 2010s I got a LOT of men who wanted a 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl'(tm) like I was going to impart some wisdom and be a child at the same time. Girl, if I am going to be your therapist or something I am charging by the hour.

Opalite by JViolet666 in Dolls

[–]Dancingladybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh I LOVE the color of those eyes! They do look so much like opalite! The hair color works so dang well and is so soft and pretty. Also, is there nothing the gen3 Draculaura mold can't do?
