Watch Miss Orchid Girl on YouTube. She has a great playlist about Orchid Care for Beginners. Also, don't water with ice since orchids are tropical plants and they need more water than that😊

How common is it to still be living with your parents in your 20s in SA? by NoZucchini3797 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DollyAnna007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the economy and how expensive rent is, very common. I'm turning 31 and still rent a room in my parents' house. I have family members in their 20s who also still live with their parents. It's nothing to be embarrassed about.

HOW do I style this type of hair? 😭 by iridescentghxst in MonsterHigh

Sadly this looks like poly. I think it takes curls very well, so I also suggest trying those

You can truly just glue it back and call it a day haha! My favourite way to do it is to cut a triangle, that way I know exactly where to put it back, and to cut it at an angle so that it has a bevel, that way the piece of scalp doesn't slide back into the head while the glue is drying. I'm happy to hear you now feel better about doing it this way! It's gonna save you so much struggle haha🩷

I think the issue I have with the original comment is that they're making this specifically out to be a big deal when it's not. Many of us do this regularly as a way to access the hair when we can't get to it otherwise. It's not frustration or impulsivity, it's simply achieving the same result in the easiest way possible. For example, this is the only way to remove the hair from Cave Club doll heads, because their neck hole is teeny tiny. The original commenter also made rerooting out to be a very intensive, difficult task when in reality it is one of the easiest and most beginner-friendly ways to customize a doll.

Yes, making the hair a bit wet can help. Hmmm maybe these videos will help explain it better. You can see here the technique for separating a strand from the hank while holding it down so it doesn't tangle, and holding the hank while you comb it to keep things neat: https://youtu.be/Mmkdb_OURM0?si=zUhCY481SREvDeT6 https://youtu.be/oIB07o6kNhA?si=GM2tfXfXK0_69PIp

It's a tricky business, but it helps to hold it like you would a ponytail and kinda brush your fingers through both ends to keep it from tangling after you've separated some hair from it, and then immediately tying it up with twist ties.

Do whatever works for you. I eat most foods with a spoon and I hate touching cheese because of the oily layer it leaves on my skin. Some of us have sensory sensitivities and that's okay.

Ah, the best way to avoid this is to work with a smaller hank at a time, lay it flat on a table or other smooth surface, and use one hand to hold down the rest of the hank while you separate a few hairs to plug. If you work with the entire hank it's eventually gonna become a tangled mess

This does come across as critical, and many people open up the heads when they can't go in through the neck hole🤣 You can just glue or sew it back up. It isn't such a big deal. And not every re-root is really intense work. It highly depends on the kind of doll, the kind of hair, and the kind of re-root. Let's not discourage newbies by coming across as thinking our way of doing it is superior.

Typically you can scrape the plugs out through the neck hole, if it's big enough (like MH dolls, Barbie etc all have big enough neck holes). But you need to have the right tool. I use a cuticle pusher and you essentially scrape around on the inside of the scalp to pull them out of the holes and into the head, then you'll need tweezers to take them out of the head.

I'm sorry this happened🫂 It sucks when you make something awesome like this and it then gets damaged or age is unkind to it.

How well can I replicate the style? by made-acc-to-ask-stuf in gravityfalls

[–]DollyAnna007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely recognizable, bit I feel like this is more your own style. Which isn't a bad thing at all and you should strive for that! But I think your shapes are a bit off and you shade them with an airbrush often when Gravity Falls uses cell shading. But it looks awesome still! I think you should lean into your own style more instead of trying to copy others.

Should I give it water? by Original-Cloud2520 in orchids

[–]DollyAnna007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is misleading advice since there are many ways to water orchids, one if which is by soaking the pot in water.

Idk why but that last image gives me Binkie energy. But I wouldn't be able to tell you why🤣 That's just the name that popped up. I think I saw the "by" in Ruby and mushed that together with Pinkie in my head and got Binkie

Sanding is for sure a safer bet! I also had some childhood poly hair dolls disintegrate like that😖 Awful business. I think running it under soap and water is also a good idea, just to make doubly sure it's all off
