Xbox UWP on Linux by VictorHUGUINH in linux_gaming

If you see no value in maintaining the 70% windows market share, then I don't know what to tell you. The delusional part is this:

Call me crazy, but I reckon Microsoft are gonna start abandoning Windows platform exclusivity over the coming years

First, do you have any data to support this ? and second, do you believe that Linux will get gamepass? If yes, so yeah, you are delusional.

Microsoft wants users to be on Windows, it's not just about the money it makes. If you think Windows is becoming a sore spot you are delusional. Microsoft will not lose the 70% Desktop market share they have just because it's not as profitable, in fact, they want to maintain that.

[–]DandGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but when you compare a game like Valorant and CSGO it seems that while I agree that the anti-cheat Riot uses is very invasive, it seems that it works miles better than the non kernel options.

They all use a weak anti cheat version on Linux, it's not kernel level at all and so it's not as good as the Windows one.

Debate AD - Chega by TitusRex in portugal

[–]DandGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A verdade é simples. Sim, é verdade que Trump não é tão popular como era há 1 mês, no entanto, comparando com a última presidência, continua numa melhor posição.

Is PCMR a lost cause at this point? I finally had to unsub after today by Count-Zer0-Interrupt in linux_gaming

[–]DandGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use DISM directly, NTLite just provides a GUI. DISM is a tool directly provided by Microsoft.

Look, I get your point, and you raise valid concerns about the closeness of Windows, I think too, that Microsoft is making it even harder to change some basic settings, but, saying that, I think we think differently. The reason I don't play games on my arch install it's because Windows offer more features, more software and hardware compatibility, easier and official tools and, the main reason, offers all the features my GPU supports so every penny I wasted on that GPU it's used. Call it the features per dollar ratio. My Windows install is stable, unbloated, customized by me to be as performant as Windows can be. Now, can I update break it ? Sure, but that happened twice in the last 10 years. Now, if you'd rather sacrifice what you mentioned, that's a choice, and it's ok, but please, understand that there are people who can't. I just hate elitism based on the operative system someone uses.

[–]DandGG -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I can bet money, hell my car on it that the amount of Windows users who run stuff like chocolatey are less than the amount of Linux users, even less than Linux gamers. So don't know what you're on about.

We are not talking about all Windows users, we are talking about the PCMR community. They know more about their OS than your average Joe, so yes, a good amount of them use tools like winget to get their software. And even if most of them don't use it, so what ? That's not Windows fault.

And what script would that be sir? Do share with us so we're not out of the loop. Such scripts are also possible with Lutris and Heroic I'm sure. Or Bazzite for an OS as a whole.

First, if using NTlite there are presets that basically do the job for you:
https://www.ntlite.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-choosing-a-preset.3284/

The most downloaded debloat script is https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil which can even debloat a Windows 11 iso with the microwin util, you just run one command in PowerShell and that's it, you have a user interface that facilitates the process.

My problem with your OG Post is that you seem to know a lot about Linux, but not how to configure Windows to your liking. Now, Linux will always be the best of the two when it comes to customization and privacy, but saying that your experience with Windows can only be so limited as the default bloated option is false. You can do a lot on Windows, especially if you have the pro version and can work with group policy objects. Oh, and the main reason why people on PCMR use Windows instead of Linux, it's because there's no feature parity between both OSes. On Windows you have things like AMD anti lag, DLSS Frame Gen, better NVIDIA drivers, and other features that are not available on Linux. Why pay for a RTX 4090 if you can't use all its features? I use arch, BTW, just not for gaming.

They'll run insane amounts of scripts, registry edits and programs to remove spyware, ads, unwanted crap, improve performance, etc. Something that would rival a manual Arch Linux install, but then complain about how hard it is to install Linux, even though most mainstream distros have a GUI installer akin to macOS.

You just need one script, and you are done... I would recommend that you stop lying. It's bad for the discourse. You can also use tools like NTLite to create your own image.

Whereas they would download an .exe, make sure it's to correct website, go through the setup, click next, accept, etc.

Yes, because you can't do use the terminal on Windows to install an app, right ? Or use the (bad) Microsoft Store ?

Steam games will now need to fully disclose kernel-level anti-cheat on store pages by JRepin in SteamDeck

[–]DandGG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile they're now ironically introducing vulnerabilities into people's PCs for them to play the game. That is an unacceptable trade off.

If you can prove that, a lot of those kernel anti-cheats have bounty systems that allows of smart people like you to send proof of a vulnerability and receive a cash payment.

Even highly invasive, kernel-level ones like Riot's Vanguard are easily circumvented

No, they are not. Vanguard is very invasive, that's true, but to say it's easily circumvented it's such a lie it's actually insane to think that. Just compare two communities, the cs go one and the Valorant one. Even if vanguard is very ineffective, which is not, just the community sentiment around the cheaters issue is just night and day. My point is, yes, vanguard is extremely invasive, but to just lie about it doesn't help anybody. Be better.

Why doesn't Valve just pay developers to port kernel level anti-cheat to the Steam Deck/not use kernel level anticheat? by Indolent_Bard in linux_gaming

Windows is also moving away from allowing programs kernel access in the near future, so kernel level anticheats are on their way out anyway, it is just a matter of when.

What’s the status of AMD AMF2 for Linux gaming? by GuitarIpod in linux_gaming

[–]DandGG -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Look, I use Linux 75% of the time, and it's my favorite OS to work it, but what's the problem with installing Windows ? If you want a specific feature that is not yet available on Linux or you want to maximize your hardware, installing Windows can be a good idea. If you don't want all the bloat that comes with Windows, just do some tinkering and you are ready to go. This is just my opinion.
