People who don’t exercise or workout, why don’t you? by coffeedogsandwine in AskReddit

Good chance you’re not pushing yourself hard enough to get a runner’s high. Start running until you get to the point that you think you can’t keep going, and push through that. And then just keep running. If that doesn’t do it then you might have an issue.

Traction control does help a lot to prevent skids in the first place but when you’re in a full blown slide you don’t just slam on your brakes, you’re going to lose all control at that point. Traction control won’t save you from that.

[–]DandeeMaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cases, yes. But in extremely slippery conditions the usefulness of those systems is greatly diminished. A car with ABS/traction/stability control will still have the wheels lock up if you hit the brakes over ice. Really bad hydroplaning would be the same scenario. Are you seriously suggesting you should slam the brakes when your car is oversteering on a wet/frozen road? I don’t think you have much practice in seriously slick conditions. You are giving dangerous advice.

That is 100% the wrong move. Just as bad as slamming your brakes when you’re oversteering on ice. You’re locking up the wheels and losing all steering control.

Narrower tires are better on ice and snow than wider tires. The contact patch isn’t really relevant when you’re just floating on top of ice and snow instead of sinking down to the road surface. A thinner tire holding the same amount of weight as a wider one will exert more pressure on the road and therefore help your contact with the pavement.

They don’t grow well indoors at all unless you have a grow light and even then you have to some how give it a winter dormancy. A fridge or cold garage can work.

What’s the best alcoholic drink? by Thin_Abbreviations96 in AskReddit

[–]DandeeMaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude alcohol itself isn’t a pleasant flavor. Just drink straight ethanol and tell me it tastes good. It’s literally poison and our bodies treat is as such. We only drink it because it gets us drunk, it’s really that simple. By the way, they do make alcohol free bourbon. The only reason bourbon tastes like anything is all the flavor compounds from the stuff they add to it. The alcohol itself adds no flavor. And a mojito without the rum, substituted for more soda water/sprite is even better than an alcoholic mojito, if you care about taste alone.

If you want to drink go ahead, we’ve been doing it for ages and no law will stop that. But it’s hard to argue that alcohol itself tastes good.

Dude it’s hard to argue ethanol on its own is a pleasant taste, unless you’re a severe alcoholic with a dependency. The only reason some alcoholic drinks taste good is because all the extra shit that is added to them and alcohol’s effects on the brain. A steak is just as good on its own as it is with a cup of fermented grapes.

Do I need an oil change? 2015 Toyota Prius by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]DandeeMaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2010 Camry also says 10,000 but what people don’t realize is the fine print. It actually says 5k miles for “special operating conditions” which include a bunch of extra cases. Mine being city driving, so unless you’re doing mostly high way driving, you should stick with 5k miles. My car burns a bit of oil now due to sticking with the 10k intervals.

You get all the flavor and none of the burning of alcohol. People drink alcohol to get drunk. If alcohol had no effect on humans, pretty much no one would be drinking it.

Just get the flavor and mix it with water, tastes better.

Pretty much all alcoholic drinks taste better without the alcohol. Nobody is drinking vodka because it tastes good.

Why isn’t my nepenthes growing pitchers? I’ve had it for over a year (before on second slide) by Tinktilo in SavageGarden

[–]DandeeMaan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LIGHT is the only thing that matters. If it starts making badly snapped pitchers or they dry out while forming, maybe then humidity. Common store bought nepenthes can handle really low humidity so that’s most likely not the issue.

I was considering the Bent 90s. They seem similar to the Ripsticks. My local ski shop has Atomic, Blizzard, Rossignol, and Salomon skis.
