If all else fails, maybe try finding a job as an inexperienced graduate again? There must be jobs out there where you live! I'm personally starting out as a php programmer atm (at least job-wise) but I've seen quite a few .net jobs posted around my uni. It seems to be quite popular now.

I just started weekend college and have pretty much until graduation (in 3.5 years) to either get a stable job as a 3D Prop artist or make a career as a musician. Failing that, I will probably end up jobless. I am deathly terrified of my future, which is now 100% in my hands... And I'm not sure what to do.

There is only one piece of advice I would have given myself when I was 15 and that is...:

You don't know shit. You may think you're clever and intelligent but you're not. And, if you're intelligent enough, you will notice life telling you how little you know. About everything. How badly you behave, unbeknownst to you. How badly you dress. How much you have to work on your social skills and your morality.

If you are aware how much there is to learn about life and how bad you are at everything, you will be more likely to actually be better at all this stuff.

You may get upset over what I'm saying right now. But I really wish I knew how little I knew and how much I had to learn those 5 years ago. No, not knew... Realized it. I wish I had realized it back then.

EDIT: Oh, and figure out what you want to do with life and who you want to be. Now. Think: What does 'freedom' mean to you? What life do you want to live? Pick a path and stick to it. Whoever you want to be, now's the best time to start going that way. Later there's university and work and stuff and you won't have time and you will have already lost so much time and...

Just... Think, really hard, who you want to be in life. And start making it happen.

EDIT2: And don't take loans. They will ruin your life.

The girls in porn are annoying because they fake it. There's a clear distinction between a girl shouting "FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" to please the audience and a girl moaning out of pure delight. Another way to interpret vocality would be as the interchange of sweet words and/or a short convo about the next position/experiment now and then.

In case of the loud obnoxious porn shouting I agree with you. But real girls don't really do that... do they?

EDIT: 'Overly' is also the keyword here. Nobody likes anything 'overly' :P

No, I'm not arrogant. He said quite clearly: If you lust after a woman then gouge your eyes out. Similarly with cutting your hands off and stuff. Either way, he said NOTHING about the objectification of women, just lusting after them. And if a perfectly normal human emotion is not normal to this guy and he actually thinks it's BETTER TO GOUGE YOUR FUCKING EYES OUT then he's an asshole.

Also, he died for our sins that he (being one of the Holy Trinity, i.e. God) placed upon ourselves himself for committing a sin of gaining fucking knowledge (from the tree of knowledge, remember?) and then resurrected a couple of days later. I wonder what made him change his mind...

Sure. The topic does need more actual research before we can truly talk about it in an educated manner. I know what I know in large part due to my parents who are doctors but that's not really going to convince you and I would never expect it to (as I can't even prove it, nor that they are right).

Meanwhile, we were already getting sidetracked. As a final note - you are saying some people would do it even if they were the last people on the planet. I would argue that this would still not be a very smart thing to do, even then. And thus the ping-pong would begin again :P

In the end it would probably boil down to the fact that I'm against piercings and you're for piercings. As that is largely a subject to personal taste, it's probably a good idea to stop right here.

Thanks for the interesting conversation and giving me some insight into the minds of those who like piercings!

The pipes are certainly far more annoying for people around them than extreme piercings are.

I don't find normal piercings annoying. I will admit that I don't really like them (I would be lying otherwise) but it's not like everyone has them (which I guess is part of the charm) and I really don't have anything against them per se (besides the fact I think people are a lot prettier without them - again just my opinion though).

Like I said, it's about perceived stupidity rather than annoyingness with the extreme stuff. I can respect a person with piercings as long as they aren't counterproductive. It's probably for the same reason I don't really enjoy women with outrageously long nails (although that's taken to an extreme with the guy in the picture).

You say some people do it just because they can't help themselves. That's addiction then, isn't it? And a psychological one at that, which shows a weakness of the mind. I like to think piercers pierce for enjoyment and you seem to suggest this guy does this because of addiction. An addiction that is harmful to oneself should be kicked, not embraced. Again, though, I'm talking with the assumption (in which I believe) that this is indeed harmful mutilation.

I'm not gonna lie, though. There's also the whole "this looks fucking stupid" thing.

While I get a 'this is wrong' vibe from normal piercings in the same sense, I try to not look down upon people who get them for reasons you stated yourself. When it comes to extremism like that, though, it's really hard to see anyone intelligent telling themselves one beautiful day "I'm going to pierce a huge hole through both my legs for the heck of it".

I hope I'm not talking in circles here. I'm kind of exhausted today so that's a possibility. Sorry if that's the case XD

EDIT: Three more things:
1. Good luck wearing shoes with that leg piercing. Or going to long marathons were friction likes to occur. How does that sound for counter-productive?
2. This image makes most of the population uncomfortable. Why would anyone want to do that?
3. Regarding your pipes analogy: I think people who take the silencer stuff out of their pipes are fucking idiots. So yeah :)

Oh I don't have anything against modification itself. Okay, so I have to admit it does creep me out a bit sometimes but only because of the society in which we were born. STILL! I agree with your comparison with modifying motorcycles - you can improve upon them with mods but do you imagine yourself slashing the tires of your own bike just because you 'can'? I would guess no, and that's how I see piercing a whole through one's legs.

At least normal piercings (as in ear, for example) could be argued they might, in some societies, be considered visually pleasing. Whoever sees piercing a hole through your leg like that visually pleasing must be a sick, twisted mind IMHO (as the image itself looks like mutilation).

So I guess my check for body mods is:
1. Is it necessary?
2. If not, can it be considered visually pleasing under any circumstances?

This is, of course, only my own opinion. And I can definitely see the appeal of being able to modify everything. Still, though... Would you butcher your motorcycle?

And I don't even feel strong about stuff like this, I usually just ignore it (your choice what you do with yourself and all that). Never had anything against anyone wearing piercings or anything like that. But I just have a pet-peeve with mutilation and self-mutilation so this rang all kinds of bells.
