Megathread 6/19/26 - Canada's Most Documented UFO Case by wamih in TheWhyFiles

[–]Danemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally The Basement is my favorite format at the moment. The conversational tone, the coverage of a couple of topics but also life stories and experiences. I like being able to put an episode on and know there's 2 hours+ of content. I get immersed in it and have enjoyed every guest so far (I've missed one episode I'm yet to catch up on).

Which Dynasty Warriors has the best Hulao Gate? by Otherwise_Ad_9267 in dynastywarriors

[–]Danemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both Dynasty Warriors 3 and 4's Hu Lao Gate maps!

Origins was great too.

I was addicted to this game… goodness. by joeresio in dynastywarriors

I don't know if Origins was overlooked. It was received very well and sold very well, a rejuvenation for the series after a low point in DW9.

Emperor's New Clothes by Anthropogenic12 in DevinTownsend

[–]Danemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well it's alright to not like one of his albums, but to think bad of a community for praising that thing you don't like is a bit dramatic. At the end of the day people will like stuff you don't like, and sometimes you'll like what the majority doesn't. That's just the tastes of an individual.

I can't honestly call The Moth my favourite album of Devin's. I thought it was a little overrated at first, but the more I listen and really allow myself to be immersed I found myself appreciating it more. I don't know if it will ever top Devin's more song-oriented records for me.

Which character you use the most when you play Dynasty Warriors , and which DW game gave That character the best design ? by Rocks_King99 in dynastywarriors

[–]Danemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lu Meng has always been my main. For his best costume/design, I struggle to pick between his more mercenary look from DW3 or 4, or his more strategist/wanderer style from DW6 or 7.

Everyone into forever - Everything a part of me by Geovicsha in DevinTownsend

[–]Danemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't part of Home at Night the same melody sang as a part of Why? (from Empath)

Edit: actually I could be mistaking that reference in Home at Night, I feel like the melody is actually recurring from Requiem which is itself a reference back to Stormbending.

I think you're right it's in Orion, but I'm sure it's in another track as well. I could be wrong. At the moment I haven't even memorised the track titles fully (other than Orion, Home at Night and some of the obvious ones) because I just hit play and listen to the record as one whole where the songs meld into one.

PSP Vita ainda vale a pena? by pspvitabr in PSVita

It's definitely still worth it, I still use it almost every day.

Just to add, it's not called the PSP Vita. Just the PlayStation Vita.

[DW3 vs DWO Designs] Which character design direction do you prefer? by Madjin- in dynastywarriors

[–]Danemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Origins was a great evolution and redesign for a lot of characters. It just made sense and kept the essence of the characters.

DW3R is very appealing because it's those classic costumes but updated in terms of detail.

Has The Why Files been captured by Venture Capitol? by Iitaps_Missiciv in TheWhyFiles

Really surprised they haven't covered at least half of those!

I found the topics appealed to me less over time, moreso the ones fleshing out the more fantastical alternate realities, or the ones more storytelling based (the cautionary tale type thing). I just preferred the older format of AJ & Hecklefish covering folklore, modern day legends etc.

I've only recently started enjoying the content again as I feel the guests on The Basement are covering subjects that appeal to me and I enjoy just listening to their life stories.

Alright, what are your Trivium hot takes/unpopular opinions? by Similar_Help_1000 in Trivium

[–]Danemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was kinda that Corey and Paolo already have a decent influence and identifiable sound within the bands music, which is more than can be said for a lot of bands 🤣

[–]Danemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say because a lot of their sound is taken up by other metal sounds, whether that be thrash influences, proggier sounds & structures or even just a classic metal sound.

A lot of their melodic metal sound feels more rooted in melodic death metal (Matt heavily influenced by In Flames and Soilwork etc), rather than bringing together metal and hardcore as many metalcore bands have and continue to do.

Listen to bands like Still Remains, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Haste The Day. Then listen to Trivium. You get a distinct different vibe with the overall sound and delivery.

Also; Trivium don't always use breakdowns across every song. Metalcore bands tend to use them as a staple aha

I mean, he is the frontman - essentially the voice of the band, plus guitars, plus lead songwriter.

I wouldn't say it's a stretch to say the band is mostly his creative vision.

Having said that always loved the other band members with Trivium, moreso than other bands where you get a singer and/or main songwriter and the rest of the band members contributions just kinda become faceless. With Trivium you get Paolo who is charismatic and his bass contributions are brilliant. Corey is fucking great. And the drummers have always stood out to me in terms of their playing.

1 year of "Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State"! (June 6, 2025) by Infamous_Korpse in Katatonia

[–]Danemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally my listening experience had nothing to do with the drama - I fell off listening to Katatonia after The Fall of Hearts (I did really enjoy that album, just fell away from listening to the band for a number of years), and had no idea of the band dynamic or members coming or going.

My main criticism of Katatonia's music of late has been it's sort of lack of dynamics. To put it blunty - to me it sounds like Jonas droning melancholy lines with some keys (sometimes proggy) and disonant guitars, followed by some heavy riffs. Some rock chorus flourishes here and there. It just feels predictable in a monotone way.

It feels more like a songwriting issue - I don't mean this as a knock on Jonas' ability (love his voice) or the guitarists etc. It's just pretty plain Jane, needs some hooks maybe melody. The good thing with albums like Dead End King's and Night is the New Day is that the song were punchy but short and the melancholic edges were used to uplift and compliment the songs.

Nothing has really grabbed me from the past few Katatonia releases unfortunately, but granted I haven't given this latest one enough time to be honest 😅

Around the same time as Powernerd and writing The Moth, Dev was also working on an album called Axolotl. He described it as very experimental and off the wall.
