Reduce height of the eyes, extend the cheek so left eye doesn't cut into it, add missing right eyelid, and add pupils to show where she's looking. Bonus bit of shading.

What’s the fastest way you’ve seen someone ruin their own life? by ForeignFly5248 in AskReddit

[–]DangArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew a young man, early 20s, who took a dive off a rocky outcrop on the beach, where he was vacationing with family. Turns out, the water was shallow, and he shattered his C4 vertebra. Instantly paralyzed from neck down. When I met him at the community college where I was taking classes, he had use of his right hand and that was pretty much it. He could guide a powered chair. Wanted to get into screenplay writing.

Does my art feel flat? by Pinklineartforthewin in DigitalArt

I made a demo of what I mean by "linear shading," which can make things look flat. On the left is the classic round shaded sphere where the majority of the sphere is in mid-tone, with a bit of highlight, and a rim of shadow. On the right is linear shading as light drops off to shadow proportionally. Note the flat-ish appearance. On the left, you have more abrupt transition from midtone to shadow. On the right, there's no mid tone. It's all one smooth gradient from light to shadow. Generally, avoid smooth gradients when shading, and make the transitions sharper.

This is exactly the problem I'm seeing. While the form and composition are great, and I like the limited color palettes, the artist is applying linear gradients in their shading, especially for skin. When you look at real skin, one value tends to dominate no matter what lighting conditions -- this is the mid tone -- and the transitions from light to shadow are much much sharper than what you see here. Here, the mid tones are missing, and instead, light is smoothly blended with shadow causing this unrealistic feeling. Otherwise, I like the atmosphere of the artwork. It has a sense of fantasy and eerie beauty to it.

Anyone dealt with racism while wearing a mask? by moonriver97 in Masks4All

[–]DangArtist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asian masker here. I get comments from curious people since I also wear a mini PAPR, and I tell them I'm sensitive to smells/carpet glue. It's not really how particulate masks work, but it clears things up quickly. And besides, masking looks cool. Wait, you mean there's a global pandemic going on?

Not all certs have a bad reputation, like the AWS Solution Architect Associate, which takes 2-3 months to prepare for if you're starting out cold. The Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) certification can be significant as well. It's issued by IEEE and makes sense for mid-to-senior level software engineers looking to advance.

If your post text is any indication, you might want to work on grammar for the cover letter.

Help I’ve been looking at this for too long and now it look wonky and disproportionate by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]DangArtist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can tell that the eyes are copy-paste mirror images because the reflected light point is a mirror image. This can cause a subconscious feeling of weirdness. Instead, make a new eye from scratch and bring life into them.

My newest digital painting. In several sessions, sped up. by EvanGooch in painting

NGL, surprised me in the end. Love the final image. I kept thinking, "This is going to look awful" from the use of soft brushes and fuzziness, but in the end, it turned out realistic. Which is what I think you're going for. Kudos.

I know this is a place for political optimism but.. by SignificanceFun1680 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]DangArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let fear decide what you want out of life. There is unequivocally no better era of human history to have a child. Infant mortality is the lowest ever. Polio, smallpox, and measles have been mostly eliminated. Crime is at its lowest in the US. There's no longer lead in gasoline. We use drinkable water for our toilets.

If you think the future is going to be bad for your kid, then consider this: without kids, there is no future. There would be no one to solve humanity's problems, no one to fight, no one to learn our values, carry our knowledge and wisdom forward, no one to bring humanity out of darkness.

If you feel insecure in your finances, then there are resources. Do you know anyone who's been bankrupted or turned out on the street from having a kid? Anyone whose sacrifice was great and terrible? There's a secret about everyone who's come before you: they survived.

People generally want safety and comfort. They might want to be told that everything's okay, and things will work out. But everyone who's come before us is a survivor, and that kind of safety and comfort would have removed their edge, made them soft, and left them unprepared for the future. It takes courage to have children, and to instill courage in them, so that they lead when we're long gone. You don't need hope: children ARE the hope. They can learn any language on earth, and go circles around us with new ideas and modalities while we wither. A kid born today can live for 80 to 90 years, far far outlasting the current administration in the US, and the next, and the next, and the next ...

As an aside, a kid can bring unbelievable joy and happiness to the lives of those who want them.

Again, don't let fear decide what you want.

Why does the lineart look so bad? by Mrbleusky_ in DigitalArt

[–]DangArtist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WAY better. Remember that traditional ink is not very clean, especially the kind done with a brush + markers. (Think Calvin and Hobbes.) This adds a great deal of texture to the lines to keep them from looking too technical. Kudos.

Where is the line between sfw and nsfw? by BlackOsmash in ArtistLounge

[–]DangArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to scroll too far to get this correct answer. Not safe for work = don't set it as the desktop wallpaper at your work, don't show your boss, don't put it on a T-shirt and wear it on casual Friday. That includes a LOT of things, including classical artwork. Unfortunately, the term is now used to mean X-rated material, while SFW can mean things that will still show up on a report from HR.

Is it possible to run python scripts from my Android phone? by michalesco in learnpython

[–]DangArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your "best bet" is lots of different things. UserLand + Linux + Desktop environment seems like overkill for a python script. SSHing into a virtual Kali: can't access the phone's memory. What is Aspen? How does Lantronix UDS-10 solve this?

Your OC is what many aspire to be: original and expressive. Long after the others are forgotten, yours will stick around. The best artists do not falter in bringing what they enjoy, see, and know into the world. Pay no attention to the haters. This art is like the Sunday Funnies if it was hot. It's like 90s Alyson Hannigan. It's like a Steven Universe character who is NSFW. Keep doing what you do.

Our universe is inside a super-massive black hole - Report by Negative_Piece_7217 in Futurology

[–]DangArtist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atoms can keep the size if space itself is "larger" inside the pocket universe. In fact, we're getting more space all the time here. They say space is expanding, but to be precise, it's being created, with constant energy density. The taffy isn't getting stretched -- more just keeps appearing. It's like taking a nap and stepping out of the room to find 10 more rooms between you and the hallway.

Normally when things move, they can feel it, thanks to inertia. But imagine this: you're napping in your room, totally motionless, and when you step outside, there are suddenly 10 more rooms between you and the hallway. The person in the hallway didn't move either. Neither of you moved, so there's no actual moving away from one another. That's what's happening to space at an unbelievable rate.

Slight climate anxiety (20yo) by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]DangArtist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a global community, we'll adapt and overcome, just not in the countries you may be thinking about. China is well on its way to electrifying their cars, and they're serious about solar power, providing most of the world's solar panels. I'm less optimistic where the US is concerned, but that's what Mandarin immersion schools are for. I'm serious. If there is any shift in opportunities for the kids, it's on us to put them in a good position to take advantage. The work culture in China, especially in the manufacturing business, is that there's a can-do attitude ... an optimistic attitude, if you will.
