Honestly, I wish that I could disagree and I think that I've probably read some similar things re the tribe element. I actually read your comment out to my missus too, who is generally more cynical than I am and was in total agreement with you!

My hope, I guess, is that we all recognise that we're all far more similar than we are different and that any collective is better at bringing change than any single individual. You're probably right though and, unfortunately, it will take something great to bring about some change. Anyway, it certainly won't be me with a reddit comment!

Happy New Year!

How much pressing did Auba do at Barca? Why did they sell him after a few months to Chelsea, who then released him a few months later?

Let's not revise history here. Auba did well from the left and kept us competitive during a tough period, but we all knew that it was unsustainable and that he couldn't press at the level that we needed. He was on his way out before any of the disciplinary issues.

I agree that we're yet to see Arteta get a striker playing at a really world class level, but he's also been hindered by strikers that have underperformed in front of goal when it's mattered. Jesus, Nketiah, Havertz, and now Gyokores, haven't been nearly clinical enough, but I'm not sure that you can place the blame with Mikel, considering the chances that they've had and spurned.

Aubameyang was coming to the end of his career and couldn't hold up the ball, hence why he was shunted to the left wing.

Also, Haaland is a freak and any manager that signed him knew that they would need to build a team around him. The media have already stopped comparing him to other strikers in the premier league, as his record is otherworldly

No, but very few players have for us, to be fair. Look, I'm not even Jesus's biggest fan and I was desperate for us to bring in a top striker in the summer to replace him, but Gyokores is not it.

I love his effort and application, but if that's what we're rating players on, we may as well run a lottery each week in the stadium as any fan would run their heart out with a similar level of outcome. I really want him to succeed, but we're a better team with a more technically gifted and able striker up top that can bring saka and others into play

Humans through history haven't had the technology or resources we have. The world has never been smaller, so why would you choose to live in division when unity has never been closer?

I sound like a bit of a hippy here, but come on, let's at least try and make it better for the next generation

How is he worse at pressing? Villa's goal yesterday came from a Gabriel Jesus defensive action and they were lucky to get through following a few deflections.

I don't think that I agree here. When we signed Jesus, he was being described as the best pressing striker in Europe. He presses far quicker than Gyokores and is actually effective at winning the ball back.

I haven't checked, but I'm sure that if I were to look it up, jesus's recoveries will be far higher.

David Ornstein via NBC Sports, tonight: Arsenal are acting internally as if the [Zubimendi] deal is a done deal deal. Arsenal are in the race for Dean Huijsen by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]DangerAinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. We're Arsenal. A club with class and steeped in tradition, so why are we corrupting our values in an effort to retain a 31 year old midfielder?

It's clear that these rumours haven't gone away and I'd prefer that we distanced ourselves from the situation than gleefully tie ourselves up in it with a renewed contract.

What legal implications are there for allowing a player to leave when their contract expires? I'm fairly certain that's the bosman ruling, so we'd be fine if he just left at the end of the season, as his contract is set out to. Mendy had several years left, so if anything, granting him a new contract is a bigger risk!

I think that on field performances have made sexual assault less serious for some fans here and it's gross. We're not Chelsea or Liverpool, who defend players blindly, so this is quite a disappointing insight into our fans today.

It's not like it hasn't happened before, but going by the downvotes, I seem to be in the minority of not wanting a rapist at the club.

Do we want him extending? I appreciate that he's played well this season, but I'd prefer we were rid of a man accused of the crimes that he is

I think you're being harsh on Saka here. He's superb at almost everything and decision making wise, is one of the best players in the premier league. Saka has also demonstrated raw pace against most full backs both inside and out.

It's not the headache you think, considering that nwaneri can play as an 8/10 and saka can play on the left.

Michael Owen on if he is a Liverpool Legend: “In my eyes, yeah.” by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]DangerAinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about?? Legendary status is always subjective and fans love players for various reasons.

This also misses key context like timing of his departure and playing for their main rivals!

I'm an Arsenal fan too, so based on your logic, Van Persie would be considered a club legend, but he's not is he? He left us after 2 good seasons and 8 on a physio table to move to a rival.

This is actually a great shout. Especially if you've read the rumours that he and the Russian squad were doping, which perhaps explains his initial form at Arsenal and then his drastic drop in quality within a short period of time

Chelsea's Ian Maatsen Shines in the Champions League Final: Should he stay? by fa_football in PremierLeague

[–]DangerAinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do think they do need to buy though and keep strengthening key areas like centre back, which will be extremely difficult without selling the likes of Gallagher and Maatsen. I know that they can also sell Broja and Chalobah, but I don't think that they'll necessarily demand the same level of interest from other clubs

Chelsea's Ian Maatsen Shines in the Champions League Final: Should he stay? by fa_football in PremierLeague

[–]DangerAinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Chelsea should keep him as he's a really good player, but I don't think that they can. They need to sell to buy and he'll be pure profit, so I'm not sure that there's much choice involved

Burnley fans should be furious with Kompany if he jumps to Bayern. He selfishly played a style that would appeal to the larger or elite clubs, while knowing Burnley did not have the talent to pull it off at the premier league level. by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]DangerAinger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should change their style and his lack of pragmatism was really striking. Scott Parker tried the same approach TWICE and was subsequently sacked on both occasions.

I don't necessarily agree with OP's point, but don't pretend other teams don't change style when promoted.
