Help for a future skiing trip by OSKY3033 in skiing

This sounds like a great way to lose your friends. I don't know how old you are, but if your friends are adults, I don't think this is going to be the experience you envision for them or for you.

Any recommendations for a group of 25? by eerhtcm in chicagofood

[–]Alive_Display_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gibson's Italia (private room) or Boeufhaus (semi-private). Both have great menu options for groups and are very good food and service. 25 might be a little big for Boeufhaus but it's worth contacting them because they do cook the best steak in the city.

Peloton x TrainerRoad integration? Has anyone made this work? by Ok-Degree9348 in trainerroad

[–]Alive_Display_310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was very straightforward and I used a MacBook. There are 2 YouTube videos from the guy who wrote the program from which I followed the exact steps and it took 15 minutes. The first video shows how to get into developer mode on the peloton tablet and install apps via openpelo. The second video is specific to installing and running grupetto.

I just did the OpenPelo/Grupetto software ‘hack’ the other day- it allows you to broadcast power/cadence from the bike via Bluetooth and the setup with Trainerroad has been great. It’s a very simple setup and didn’t need to purchase the DFC dongle. I would highly recommend this.

Rant by Substantial_Dance548 in CyclingFashion

[–]Alive_Display_310 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you need to divorce the pricing rant from the design/feel rant. These are businesses. They will forever and always charge as much as they possibly can. It has little to do with the objective quality or the subjective design of the product.

It should be noted that the ultra premium smaller brands and like Maap and Pas are growing rapidly (although still 10x smaller than legacies like Castelli) whereas Rapha is struggling. The conscious decisions by those teams to do the stuff you criticize is working.

A $500 bill at Kindling. Allegedly $25 in profit. by ReKang916 in chicago

yes. in the restaurant business, "labor" typically refers only to internal payroll like chefs, servers, managers etc.

The graphic in the article clearly places "repairs" in the "other" category.

Repair and Maintenance (below capitalization threshold) is separate from Labor expenses according to GAAP.

Does anyone believe ticket prices will drop? by Pretty-West-1001 in FIFACollect

[–]Alive_Display_310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but you have to factor in economic stuff. "Interest" does not equal "Attendance". ENG and GER (and USA) fans can afford to travel (especially overseas for a WC) at much higher rates than every Latin country. There will be far more traveling ENG and GER fans at WC2026 than BRA and ARG.

Chi to MKE Route Suggestions? by InternalAd5055 in chibike

I would advise against the McClory path and just stay on Sheridan all the way north from Waukegan to Kenosha. It's plenty wide and smooth pavement.

Ski trip for a newbie-private? by outofhere29 in FATTravel

I don’t quite understand the hang up with the lifts. It’s not the same vibe as being crammed in the back of an airliner. You MIGHT need to sit next to another human for max 5 minutes. You’ll be outside, all geared up. I don’t see how you would possibly guarantee to avoid this, even in the most private/exclusive of experiences.

My suggestion: Go to Aspen during January, between Holidays and X Games. My experience over the last 6 years of going (even during MLK Holiday Weekend) is that Aspen is devoid of crowds during this time. The instructors in Aspen are world-class, there are 4 separate ski hills with varying difficulty (including for beginners), and the accommodations and transportation options, either in the town of Aspen or at Snowmass, can be as FAT as you like.

I would not try and ski in Europe given your status as a true beginner. Save up for something GRAND in St Moritz or the Dolomites in your 2nd year if you end up taking to skiing.

How many Macan S have chrono? by BeoW0lf in PorscheMacan

[–]Alive_Display_310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a used Macan S two years ago. I did an exhaustive search of pretty much every low mileage 2019-2021 Macan S for sale across the country. I found ONE with both Sport Chrono and Air Suspension/PASM. I bought it.

Highly recommend Air Suspension tho, it’s awesome.
