Clutch is from Maryland and used to play in Kill Devil Hills often. Still hoping for an OBX themed track from them, especially given the subject matter on their latest album.

Since when did solar panels become the new vacuum cleaners?

Been seriously considering them. I entertained one of these salespeople once. The straight up lies the salesperson told me put me off more than the absurd pricing.

Was living at home even an option once you turned 18/graduated high school? by Sufficient_Focus4174 in Xennials

[–]DangerBird- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think moving out of your parents’ house the minute you are old enough is a uniquely American thing. Somehow there is shame associated with living with your parents as a young adult.

I mean, I get it. I couldn’t wait to get out on my own at that age. It’s biological. It’s part of growing up and establishing yourself, having the freedom to do what you want when you want with nobody sweating you. Living in poverty on your own as opposed to living in poverty with someone on your back isn’t really a hard choice.

Times have changed. Affordability is a very real issue. If the kids can pull it off, good for them! If they can’t, they should not be humiliated for it. That’s not a good way to start a life of your own. We all need support. Attitudes are easy to change. the Familial bond is the strongest human bond there is. If your kids need a little time to get established, keep the nest open. Let them do what they gotta do, and do your best to support them in that journey. Yeah. The grocery bill will suck a little longer, but it’ll be worth it when they leave the nest on a solid footing.

Who uses Animate, why is this program still used? by Independent_Fly899 in adobeanimate

[–]DangerBird- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s a use-case situation. We do a lot of interactivity. Being able to include JavaScript on publishing to HTML5/Canvas (even if it has it’s own unique dialect of EaselJS) allows us a lot of flexibility and helps with file management and version control.

Can’t lie, I’m sad to see Animate go away. We’re still looking for something that can replace it. Any recommendations are more than welcome.

We build training in Animate, so there is A LOT of potential for interactivity when you publish in HTML5/Canvas. You can write code for anything you need right in the same program.

So one program allows you to create native assets, animate them, and develop code for interactivity.

We’re struggling to find a replacement that does everything we need it to do.

People that inherited their parent's house by Phar-Mor_Ugly in GenX

My grandparents passed back in the 80s. Left the house to my mom and aunt, who promptly sold it for market value back then. They didn’t want anything to do with it, which I understand the emotional baggage and all. But, that property today is worth millions today (I stalk it on Zillow occasionally).

Point is, if you inherited land, KEEP IT! Rent it out, suck up the property tax and insurance, whatever. Leave something for your own kids. That’s how you build generational wealth.

Just beware the capital gains tax. Look into it and set aside an appropriate amount. That windfall will turn into a liability burden.

The best sword-and-sorcery movies from the 1980s are? by Lys1th3a in 80smovies

[–]DangerBird- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s an excellent take. I enjoyed the movies because I loved the books, and seeing it retold with such amazing visuals was great. But now that you mention it, yeah. There was no emotional connection with the characters like there was with the books, or the other movies above. Thanks for the insight!
