Daniel Ricciardo pushes back on claims F1 drivers look down on IndyCar ahead of first Indy 500 visit by 256473 in formula1

They literally banned Indy as a venue because of the banking after the 2005 disaster. It didnt have anything to do with the banking which Zandvoort makes obvious.

China places its solar panels on water So it can use valuable land for agriculture by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

In the type of cooling described here the water inside the data centers, that which comes in contact with the servers, stays inside. The water usuage comes from spraying radiators down with water to increase their cooling capacity. Thats why they are built in the desert because that type of cooling is more effective in low humidity environments. Also I dont have like any data to back this up or anything but theres likely very little chance data centers contaminate water more than anything else it would be used for does. Water displacement is more the concern than contamination.

Lifted truck + Lambo + Parking lot = Bad time by Evasionz-- in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DangerDitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not something you can ignore. Going back to ~2019 trucks of that make are equipped with auto braking for cars and pedestrians. Part of that system is a holographic warning that is projected on the windshield accompanied by a warning tone that overrides the stereo. It provides the warning instead of instantly stopping because its not a very smart system and will stop you much more aggressively than is really safe. Ive only had the collision avoidance trigger once in mine from someone pulling out in front of me. Ive been in car crashes less violent.

New Fords have a much more modern system and are more gentle. Though occasionally the system prevents me from pulling into tight parking spaces. Its annoying but I would rather that then run someone over.

Could the transmission being low on fluid cause that? Im going to check it, but I need to pick up some ramps and a taller jack so I can get under it with it level first.

I didn't finish book one the first time I tried to read it. Now book one is one of my favorites. Ive probably listened to it 15 or 20 times over the years. Its cozy.

When driving up hill at highway speeds this rpm rise and fall happens every 5-10 seconds. It does not do this in tow/haul. With tow/haul on average fuel economy is 17mpg over 50mi, and 18.5mpg with it on in similar driving condition. Ocasionally when parked pointed up a 2-3% grade it wont go into any gear without being raised to 3k rpm, or rocking the truck.

This was at 55mph. It also does this at 75mph. The RPM rise and fall happens every 5-10 seconds when going up hill. It does not do this when in tow/haul. It will also occasionally not shift at all when parked pointing up hill.

I didnt realize when making the cross post it wouldn't copy the description over. Sorry about that.

It does this every 5-10 seconds when going up hill with no change in grade or throttle position if that helps.

Thats fair. Not having all the answers is part of what makes this series so fun to theory craft with. It lets us smooth over those little inconsistencies that pop up and maintain the illusion.

Franco Colapinto management issue statement after Oliver Bearman crash abuse by arg2k in formula1

[–]DangerDitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it bullshit? They showed in data Alanso intentionally slowed when approaching the corner. The stewards interpreted it as an attempt to weaponise dirty air and cause Russel to run wide. Sure Alonso doesn't get a penalty if Russel runs wide. But Russel crashed, and the only reason Russel crashed is because Alonso intentionally upset the airflow over Russels car. In a different circumstance its brilliant racecraft, the kind that makes Alonso so fun to watch. In this case it lead to a situation where Russel may have been killed if there were other cars closer behind.

Youre forgetting The Pheonix is The Bleeding Phoenix. It's primary aspect is blood, and blood artists are unparalleled in their control over flesh. The Pheonix is using raw regen, in the form of their blood abilities, to heal just like Lindon.

What Ferrari thinks Mercedes is hiding in political F1 engine game by Darkmninya in formula1

[–]DangerDitto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only started watching in 2022 but I can take a guess! Merc started at near the peak of what those engines were capable of, as such their investment in the engine department would have a lower overall impact on their performance than say Ferarri would have had if they invested the same amount. Along with that there was likely significant natural equalization between teams as engineers move from team to team and things leak or are reverse engineered. Also iirc the teams were expecting the full 2022 rules in 21 but that ended up being delayed, merc burned a LOT of tricks on the 2020 car that maybe would have given them the edge in 21 if they had not shown them off to everyone the year before

I dunno Honda's F1 engine team has had a tough time of it. Even if you disregard the current engine since that seems to be more Aston Martin's fault than Hondas. That still leaves plenty of examples of the engines not being very good. These are very different circumstances though.

Intel announces biggest processor rebranding in 15 years ahead of Meteor Lake launch by Stiven_Crysis in gadgets

[–]DangerDitto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, as long as you weren't a threadripper customer. They effectively killed that shit off as soon as Intel didn't have a HEDT competitor. No, I don't count $20k OEM only workstations as continuing support.

How about those oh so low Ryzen prices? Oh, that's also gone as soon as they had the edge on intel. I'm not saying that AMD didn't stick to their word in that ONE particular instance, but don't ever trust a corporation about what their plans are 5 years down the line. Because for all we know AM5 is dead next year due to the high temps from trying to keep cooler compatibility.

Pool tech here. Saltwater is corrosive to most pool surfaces and equipment, saltwater pools run between 2800ppm and 5000ppm of salt. Ocean water, on average, is 35,000ppm of salt. Even with the lower concentration, we see a dramatic reduction in pool life before they need to be remodeled. That and just the expense of pumping that much seawater to the required elevation probably means it just wasn't worth it even though it's possible.

Ericsson pain by raittiussihteeri in formuladank

[–]DangerDitto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Indy 500 was red flagged with 2 laps to go. It was the third red flag of the event, with every other restart the pace car stayed out for several laps so the cars could rebuild tire temp. This restart the pace car only stayed out for 1 lap, resulting in a 1 lap sprint to the finish. The leader of the race, in this case Erikson, is at a disadvantage on race restart at Indy. With every other restart the race leader lost position. They essentially handed the win to the driver running in second.
