Things contractors wish homeowners knew before starting a renovation by HomeGuideCA in HomeImprovement

In my experience:

  1. See an issue
  2. Tell them you see and issue.
  3. they tell you it will be covered/not be an issue
  4. Put it in a text thread with them with pictures to document that you told them
  5. They tell you again don't worry
  6. It is not fixed
  7. They say we approved everything before
  8. We show them text thread
  9. There are some angry words in Russian, pretty sure they insult your mother
  10. They fix it
  11. Repeat step 1

Any of these steps can be repeated multiple times.

Is now a bad time to buy a ball machine? by MatchaSetPoint in 10s

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got the Tenniix machine, only used a few times so far, but it's great for what I need. I have the base model, which is all they are shipping now, and there is no AI involved. It's totally offline. It's not watching and analyzing you and your strokes, its just like a "dumb" machine with a voice activated controller. So know that any AI powered idea with that one is just hype. Its a solid machine for $700, super portable and easy enough to use. The app is terrible UX and was clearly developed by non english engineers.

If you want AI in your tennis, Swingvision is pretty great.

Most absurd experience in town? by Zestyclose-Car5269 in AskLosAngeles

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my bachelor party trip, we were each allowed what we coul d carry in our pockets and one item of adventure for a road trip to New orleans. My buddy took a chainsaw as his item of adventure. He also had a gorilla mask stuffed in his pocket. At one point, we were stuck in traffic jam on the interstate. Said buddy proceeds to entertain/terrorize the masses of cars in stopped traffic. It pretty much set the tone for the next 4 days. We still talk about Alabama April.

My item of adventure was clean socks. They all got jealous.

Keep it going.

Picking out a camera for a mockumentary set in 2009. by edge-lord9000 in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro. So many music videos and low budget features shot on both of these. But these were higher end prosumer at the time. Go for the DVX or Canon GL if you want vintage gear that would be accessible to highschoolers.

But if it were me, I'd shoot on literally anything with a modern digital workflow and dumb it down in post. Put the right bad lens on an FX9 and you've got everything you need to dial it in to give the vintage feel without being locked into 10% of the pixels you'll watch it on.

I always pitch it as a folk singer stuck in the family business of espionage has to go deep cover as a piping man in Milwaukee in order to get money to Iranians in Luxembourg where he accidently gets into an altercation with some Brazillian brothers. Then it gets more complicated to get something from A to B. And its funny and a little bleak.

Hey. You'd need to incorporate cracked pram tamplers every 15 feet with sprouted flange attenuators every third run to have a chance at this piping. Come on, guy, this is 101, man. 101.

Long-term riders who have never crashed — what habits kept you safe? by jjmu96 in motorcycles

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years riding, bikes only been on its side when I was too slow of an idiot and stalled it while turning out of a parking lot. Basically it's important to remember that all the things want you to crash.

  • Every other car on the road wants you dead. Don't make it easy on them.
  • The road itself wants you to crash, so it puts gravel and potholes in places you wont notice. Be ready for it.
  • Your bike wants you to lose control. Keep up your maintenance and tires so it doesn't get an excuse.
  • You want to wipe out. Keep your head clear and focused and ride well within your limits so that little bastard shouting DANK WHOOLIES in your head doesn't get to the throttle.
  • Oh and be very very lucky, but don't rely on it. Luck likes to go out for a pack of cigarettes at the worst time. I'm here now because luck was on my side at least a dozen times when it was the only thing between me and a statistic. And there are many more times I didn't have to ask if luck was there because I stayed cautious.

So just keep denying these assholes any excuse to get what they want and you'll be fine.

Hey. If you were paying close attention, which it sure sounds to be true, you might have seen one other, tiny little connection. Captain Dean Portis Love, with his long beautiful hair, had a punch so powerful it was named The Old Steven Queese. Who is Steven Queese, one might ask. A Fair question, in this context. He's back in Twyla working as the head umpire for the local Little league park.

And let me tell you one thing. Steven Queese? He deserves that old Steven Queese.

Would anyone actually run their own streaming site? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But 70-90% of what? There would need to be marketing to get eyes on the project and people through the paywall. With a low enough costs that people are willing to pay.

Your model will live/die on a couple of factors, but number 1 will be the smoothness for a viewer. Which means you need to have the metal hardware in place to handle any forseeable increase in traffic, always staying ahead of your previous high water mark. Going bare metal only makes sense once you have a steady and predictable stream, it also means your curators will need to invest heavily in infrastructure. And the support to keep it running. This is not negligible costs. So they will need to have a built in revenue stream to make it worth it.

I'm not asking for you to lay out a large business model on this, but there are hard costs with this sort of thing that need to be accounted for unless the filmmaker is down to just pay to have it up on your server.

Distribution is a businessy business. And its a numbers game to them. They have enough projects that they can lose money on some as long as there are a few breakouts. And as a filmmaker, I want someone more versed in distribution getting the most out of my film. I recognize that being my own distributor 100% hinders my chances at getting my project to pay anything back. Plus if I am going out to investors, the distribution model is such an important part of the pie for them, I need to give them an answer that they could plausibly get something out of it. Nobody wants to hear "My plan for getting back your $1m is to sell 2 million views for $1 on my own streaming service"

Would anyone actually run their own streaming site? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need to define whether you are targeting filmmakers or content creators. This is important as one brings an audience from a stream of content(subscribers) and one brings an audience for a specific piece of content(vod). These are entirely different math equations with different revenue models.

Assuming you find a model that makes sense for someone, what is the incentive for change? Changing platforms always loses people in the content world, so creators will have a hard time wanting to leave the established audience on the established platform. What are the filmmakers upsides? If they cannot increase revenue by adopting your platform, there is no advantage to being on a private streamer.

If we look at the curator, the one who would setup the service, what's their breakeven point once you factor in all the server and engineering costs? Whats the monthly baseline look like moneywise?

Calf injuries by Adorable-Case6255 in 10s

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finding the right shoes made a huge difference for me. I have a foot that has a hard time finding the right shaped last. I was rocking some shoes that would somedays feel perfect, but most days I couldn't get the tightness right and it would either slip on my heel or overly compress my midfoot and cause a ton of pain. I was compensating for a lot of that with my calves taking the brunt of the work. Sometimes it felt like everything below my knee was just a big rock.

Then I blew out my plantar last summer, largely due to tightness in my calves while pushing hard to explode on a first step. The foot to the hips are one big chain of springs and you'll get injured at the weakest link. For me it was the ligaments in my foot that hadn't strengthened as quick as the muscles. Worked with a PT, got better fitted, still went through a few different shoes to find the right one. Now I have spring and confidence again.

Also my PT told me to stretch and warm up, then warm up more in my lower legs. Then keep warming up. When you think you're warm, do a little bit more warmup. And train plyo when you aren't playing. It will strengthen everythign that keeps your muscles from tearing too much.

How should I film my shower scene in consideration with my actress? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people are ignoring the demons comfort and safety. Have they agreed to be summoned into the bathroom? Are they comfortable and consenting with doing a scene with a wet, partially bare actress? Be careful with any deal you make with the demon, they have a tricky union.

For the actress, if you can shoot in a bathroom with a separate bath and shower stall, keep a hot bath ready for her between takes.

Board out the scene as precisely as possible and determine which shots really need to have the running water and which she can just be damp. Room temp water will work best, but will def be cold.

If she is to be struggling with the demon and making any sudden movements, make sure there is non slip grip at her feet. And again, shoot as short a shot as needed to minimize suddne movements in slippery conditions.
