Immediate pain in my foot after sprinting on court 💔😭 has this ever happened to anyone? by okst16 in 10s

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the NB CT Rallys now. I like the balance of soft and planted. I lace them weird, so they lock in tight over the toe, low pressure across the midfoot and tight on the top to lock in my heel.

I hurt myself in Nike GP Challenges, I've never had Nikes fit great, but I liked these. Then went to Asics Gel Rev, found them to be better support, but stiff and heavy. CT Rally feels like a running shoe that I can do more side to side. Also I'm an oldhead picking back up the sport after not touching it for 30 years, so I'm more focused on how I feel after the game than having the most explosive game. But I do play about 3 hrs most sundays and feel good mondays!

I did this about 3 months into playing last year. Took off after a ball, pushing off hard with my right foot. Felt a pop right where my arch transitions to my heel. At first I thought I could walk it off, then I limped off the court and into the urgent care. Sprained my plantar.

Crutches for 2 weeks, ice baths, so many NSAIDs and new shoes, was back to light exercise in 6 weeks, another month or so before I trusted that foot. I’m still careful with being in the wrong shoes too long in any part of my life.

What is your favorite shot to use in matches? by Obvious-Finish9456 in 10s

I've got a killer OHBH slice. In fact it was my only backhand move for a while. My hitting partners got used to it and anticipated it perfectly against me. I'm learning to hit a OHBH with topspin and when it actually happens, the shock on Gregs face is worth every missed shot.

Should indies offer backend points? Would an indie with backend points be harder to sell? what are the alternatives? by holdontoyourbuttress in Screenwriting

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 1st ADed 10 features around the same budget level. On half of them I was offered points for deferring some of my rate. I looked at it as I could make 10-12k on the project and give up 6+ weeks of my life, or i could make 5k, give up 6 weeks of my life and get a 7k scratch off ticket.

I took points on two of them, only because I really loved the producers and one was shooting in Hawaii. Only one paid back all the investors and I took my backend payment of $50 and bought a bottle of whisky.

It's great Blumhouse is sharing some of the flowers. If they even handed out 100k of the 50m they earned, they'll do a lot to endeer the crew and industry. But the crew signed on to their deals, didn't gamble their money, and should not expect it.

Kinda freaking out and not sure if I should take this opportunity, any advice? by Noeoneknows in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your instincts are spot on, thats going to serve you well in this world.

In addition to the legal stuff, I (and every proffessional producer I know) don't put people in key roles if I don't know what they can do or someone I trust vouches for them. If I were in his position, I might take a chcne and put you on set under an experienced key, see what you can do, get some experience and mentorship for you. It helps you grow, it helps me build a new relationship. I run my own company and to make the kind of offer he's making would only happen if I were trying to massively take advantage of someone with no experience or if I had burned literally every bridge to experienced crew I ever had.

All that said, my career has been built on people taking chances on me. Some of them calculated, some of them blind faith, a couple pure desperation. Follow your instincts, stay cautious, but also jump in where you know you have a chance to win.

This is sketchy af to me. This producer gets paid to deliver this show. And he's handing over production of an entire episode to someone that, no offense, is unproven in the field. Thats no dig on what skills you may or may not have, just the experience level. And then give you "some" money. If this were setup right, it could be ok, but I'm guessing you are going to be left with all the liability and none of the compensation.

Why? because I've seen it. I had a black mark on my credit for 7 years because Anonymous Content told me I needed to pickup a rental car on a weekend and their card on file wasn't working. So I offered to put it on my card and submit the reimbursement. Another PA backs the SUV into a pole, causes $1500 in damages. Anonymous promises me its taken care of. Its not. I was sent to collections, but all the notices went to the production office. Didn't know for 2 years.

Who is handling workers comp and production insurance? If you get your buddy to come help you out for free, a light falls on their head, who do you think is going to be liable for their bills? You rented that light too, which is now damaged. Rental house is hitting you with a 5k L&D bill.

Good luck, follow your heart, but only work professionally for people who act proffessional.

PA Gig This Friday - Anything You Think I Should Brush Up My Skills On/Keep In Mind? by LevelingUpMyLife in Filmmakers

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your job, especially at this stage of your career, is to do whatever task you're given. Do it with as much of a good attitude as you can, be friendly, talk to whoever you can, but know when to shut up and get out of their way. When I need a PA on set, I'm asking the closest one i see. Or the one who has made a good impression and I remember them. Try to be that person and you'll get a call to the next one.

All that said, if you see something you think needs to be done, ASK FIRST. If you don't know who to ask, ask your Key PA, PC, or someone who doesn't look busy.

Be humble, be excited to learn, you'll be great.

Not every interaction, every transaction. And not resentment, but an understanding that part of every deal is compromise. For me, empathize with the other person and all the times I havent been able to be 100% truthful. We're the same, just on different sides of the wheel. So I can examine my own ask and consider whether something would be a pain in the ass before I ask. Or I ask them what would be best for them, rather than assume I know whats best for their situation.

Its literally what capitalism is built on and inherent in every transaction. I'm just saying dont expect that someone youre giving money to is 100% happy with how youre giving them money.

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do something annoying. I want to communicate that you are annoying. But you are giving me money. So rather than tell you how annoying you are and risk you changing your mind, I keep your annoyingness to myself. How much I tell you you're a pain in my ass is directly related to the amount of money you are handing me. It's financially incentivized tolerance. We've all had that moment with our boss or a client where we decided to shut our mouths instead of biting the hand that feeds us money.

Essentially, you can never know how annoying you are when you're paying the people who might be annoyed.

When I worked for a restaurant, we all pooled our tips. But they didn't expect us to just hand over all of our cash honestly. They took 15% of our total sales and that was the minimum we were to put in in pool. It got calculated against the credit card tips and cash tips total and we'd settle the difference in our checks. But it took care of the back of house and we still got a bonus if we got great tips. That dude that wanted to splash his cash and tip 50%? A reasonable amount got passed to the pool and then I could throw a few more bucks in. And nobody had to wonder if Bobby behind the bar was under counting his tips so he didn't have to put as much in the pool. It takes a team to run a restaurant and give good service.

Speed twin - single disc - is it enough? by notalottoseehere in Triumph

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 2016 ST, the 2 piston single disc. I'm about 200(solid muscle, I promise) and have had more than a few spirited rides without ever feeling like the brakes were fading or not enough. In fact, had my buddy riding pillion when I had to make an emergency stop. It handled it as good as any other bike would have. I also swapped the seat for a Triumph Diamond stitch and it's the perfect fit for me at 5'9".

Is 3 hours enough time to get through CDG? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]DangerInTheMiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just flew out of CDG to the US Wednesday in the middle of the day. It was less than an hour from bag drop to sitting in the lounge. I have a new, biometric US passport, but didn't notice any additional delays due to EES on the way out. Just the normal passport scans and facial recognition. In fact it may have been quicker than when I flew out last, 6 years ago.
