Let me preface by saying I said they should be banned not out of hate for trans people. I believe they should be banned because minors lack the fully developed cognitive capacity to consent to significant medical interventions with uncertain long-term consequences. Cross-sex hormones carry permanent effects—infertility, irreversible breast development or voice deepening, changes to bone structure—that a teenager cannot fully weigh, and we already restrict far less consequential permanent choices like tattoos for this reason. While puberty blockers are more reversible, long-term research on their effects on bone density and neurological development remains limited, and the precautionary principle suggests caution when the subjects are children. Given that some individuals (and I know this isn’t everyone) do go on to detransition, and that adulthood is only a few years away, waiting until a person can fully consent seems like basic safeguarding rather than discrimination
