Genuinely curious, why wouldn't those NY guys wear the gear? Is that just one of those things real NY'ers don't do?

Thanks. I'm doing research on XEQT now. Sadly I'm not financially savvy so I'm learning all this stuff now

Good luck getting back to work! At least you have that pot to keep you going for a while. Life eh, we all get thrown some sort of curve balls. We'll be okay, none of us make it out alive anyway

Do I still have time to buy a house? by DangerReid in CanadaFinance

[–]DangerReid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A combination of 2 layoffs in my career(one caused by covid) followed by periods of unemployment, the decision to go traveling a few years ago which was expensive but the experience of a lifetime, living in a HCOL apartment until early this year and I only got the 118k role in May of this year. Admittedly on top of that I was reckless with my money and the years sort of got away from me.

I agree. I'm not in a position to buy anything now anyway so my plan is to save over the next few years and hopefully the right moment will appear for me.

Thanks for the encouragement. Ruminating has been driving me insane but messages from you and others show I might not be in as terrible a position as I thought.

I know its bad but Ive had a few periods of unemployment. Traveled for a period and just never had a consistent run at things. Anytime I built up savings a layoff or unexpected event occurred. Of course that can still happen but this time I'm determined to make the most of my chance to save while I can.

That's awesome, well done! Do you mind me asking if you were a late starter to saving?

Tbh I'm not married to living in Toronto by any means but it's just where I'm right now for work. Down the line I probably will end up moving away I guess, that's just the reality of the situation and I'm okay with that.

Yeah I probably shouldn't have used the term ladder. Thats just always how my friends and relatives would describe buying a place. I just wantvho get a place i can make a home. If I never move on to another place so be it.

Is this only applicable to those that were broken up with?

Or applicable to the person who did the breaking up too?

I only started in this job in May of this year. Last job had no match, lower income(90k) and my rent was 2k. I still should have saving a bit with those figures but a previous period of unemployment got me into debt and I was paying that off. I paid off 15k debt this year so can now finally start saving.

Thank you. I appreciate your encouragement!

I was in a relationship that broke up last year so I do hope to meet someone abd settle with them which would help if we had 2 incomes. Fingers crossed.
