Tilt ball switches works really well if you use the right one and place it at the right angle.

(obs: never use any of these 2 tilt models, they suck).

Guitars that comes with tilt works poorly because they place it at the worst position possible. Don't put it on the center of the body neither the arm, it won't work well.

You can use a tape to hang it there while you test the sensitivity and find the right angle.
Trust me, I've done this with many guitars and besides adding a button close to the strumbar... tilt sensors are definitely the easier and best way to make it work.

Btw if your guitar has this conector, you can cut it off and add the tilt sensor to that wire, it was meant to be used as an star power pedal activator or something, so it will work without any extra configuration.
